RuPaul Once Revealed Why He Finally Decided to Marry Longtime Boyfriend after 23 Years
RuPaul has been with his partner for almost 25 years, yet they never really let people whether or not they've tied the knot. That was until 2017, where he finally let people in on his marriage to Georges LeBar.
RuPaul of "RuPaul's Drag Race" revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he and his partner of more than two decades have gotten married. He says that his decision to get married spring from the results of the 2016 presidential election, saying they weren't sure what would happen in the future. That's why they made sure to celebrate their love in the best way they can, so as not to have regrets in the future. At that time, spoke candidly about the issue:
“What’s happening politically right now, you know, you never know what could turn around at this point. Who thought that this would happen, what’s happening in Washington right now.”
The TV personality also shared that they didn't really have any plans to get married, as their relationship did not rely on a ceremony. However, with what has been happening in Washington, they didn't want to risk it.
“We are devoted to each other. We don’t stand on ceremony. We thought, we don’t have to get married. But then, in light of what’s happening currently in the world today, what’s happening in Washington, we thought, you know what? Let’s do it. Let’s just do it, because there’s too much at stake with our businesses ... so, that’s why we did it."
The couple exchanged vows in a simple ceremony in their Los Angeles home, but RuPaul revealed their day-to-day lives remain the same.
“That paper don’t mean nothin’!” he announces. “If you’re devoted to a person, nothing’s gonna change that. And after 23 years, you know, hey, I know him. He knows me. I love him. He’s my favorite person on the planet I’ve met. I’ve met a lot of people. I’ve met a lot of people. He’s my favorite person.”
RuPaul and Georges met in the dancefloor of The Limelight Club in New York City back in 1994, and the two have been inseparable since.
