Proud Mom Nia Long Shares Son Is Headed to Eastern Kentucky University
Ecstatic mom Nia Long shares the good news of her 18-year-old son's bright future at Eastern Kentucky University. A few years back, he played her on-screen son in a film.
Nia Long proudly announced her eldest son, Massai Dorsey Jr.’s entry into Eastern Kentucky University as a student-athlete.
PROUD MOM
The delighted mom raved about her son’s accomplishment on her Instagram this week.
“I’m so proud of my baby @massaidorsey OFFICIALLY COMMITTED TO EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY!!!Blood, sweat and tears…it’s the only way. Let’s get it baby boy!!!”
Her message was accompanied by a photo of the two of them where Nia appeared to be supporting Massai in one of his baseball games.
In her caption, the actress also mentioned her 18-year-old’s father, Massai Dorsey Sr. and thanked him “for never missing a game and keeping our boy on course.”
EXCITED SON
Likewise, Massai Jr. shared the good news on his social media sharing an image of EKU’s logo.
“I‘m extremely excited to announce that I have officially committed to Eastern Kentucky University,” he wrote. “I would like to thank my coaches at EKU, my trainers, mentors, friends, teammates and parents for helping me accomplish my goals as a student athlete. GO COLONELS.”
BONDED CO-STARS
Massai, Jr. was 12 when he first ventured into acting portraying Nia’s son in her film, “The Single Moms Club.” It was the actress who pitched the idea to her producers to allow her son to audition for the role.
"I read the script, and they said, '12-year-old son,' and I was like, 'He's 12. This is kind of perfect,'" she recounted during a 2014 interview with Mom.Me.
Luckily, Massai Jr. got the part and it became a bonding experience for him and his mother. He admitted gaining more respect for her job after being a part of it.
Meanwhile, Nia was initially overwhelmed at being a mom to her son on and off camera, assisting him with his lines and making sure he didn’t miss out on school. But it all worked out and the actress was glad to have given her son the opportunity to discover other passions.
DOTING PARENT
Today, Nia continues to involve Massai in her work along with her other son, 8-year-old Kez Sunday Udoka. Kez’s father is Nia’s ex-fiance, NBA coach Ime Udoka. In March, she brought her with them to Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards where they posed for photos on the red carpet.
Despite their age gap, Massai Jr. and Kez are close. Oftentimes, Nia would share images and clips revealing their special bond. One of them showed Kez looking up adoringly at his older brother, a moment Nia doted on.
Nia also makes sure her children learn the importance of charity. Last Thanksgiving, she brought them to the Los Angeles Mission feeding activity where they assisted in giving food to the hungry.
Nia's role as a mother is one she can be proud of. Not only is she a loving mom to her two children, but she also encourages them to be the best version of themselves.
