Earlier in the segment, Jennifer shared that her late mother's pound cake recipe has long been part of family celebrations, including birthdays and Mother's Day gatherings.

Moments later, David Jr. walked onto the set carrying a homemade cake inspired by the family recipe, leaving Jennifer visibly stunned.

David Jr. told his mother, "So I made it for Mother's Day. I know it's a special day to you." Jennifer thanked him before the two shared a hug on stage. He later surprised his mom with flowers, adding another emotional moment to the segment.

As clips from the episode continue circulating online, viewers remain focused on both the heartfelt family moment and the striking resemblance between Jennifer and her son.

While Jennifer and David Jr. shared a warm moment onstage, the singer's relationship with his father was once at the center of a highly publicized legal dispute following the couple's split.

As reported in April 2019, a judge had set a hearing for David to make his case against the "Dreamgirls" star and have her take the stand under oath to discuss their relationship.

According to court documents reported by The Blast, David had filed the motion in hopes that the deposition would help him win his case. Meanwhile, Jennifer had also filed a motion of her own.

She had also received a hearing schedule to determine whether Jennifer's motion requiring David to find a job and track his employment search would be enforced.

The court battles between the former couple had turned increasingly contentious soon after their split.

Back then, Jennifer filed for an emergency order of protection, alleging that David pushed her while she was holding their son. She was granted a temporary order before later dropping the petition.

David denied the allegations, but the two continued battling in court. At the time, David, then 39, had requested that Hudson cover the housing costs for the professional wrestler, lawyer, and actor.

According to David, he had been David Jr.'s primary caregiver throughout the relationship because of Jennifer's demanding career as a singer and performer. The singer denied the claim and argued that David appeared to want "a career path identical to Jennifer's."

Jennifer also pushed back against the suggestion that her career prevented her from caring for their son. She further argued that because the two were never married, David Otunga was not entitled to housing costs or to continue living in a home comparable to hers.

A document from Jennifer's side read: "Having a child with a celebrity should not be the basis to treat David like someone who has given birth to a child and who has no means of supporting the child. Jennifer is the one who gave birth to the minor child, who had the child with her as she traveled prior to the difficulties the parties experienced in their relationship."

A trial that had originally been scheduled for that month was later postponed until May. By then, both parties were expected to attempt to settle their differences.
