Bill Belichick's Daughter-in-Law Responds to Arrest Order with a Cheeky Instagram Story — Photos
What began as a traffic case in North Carolina has quickly become one of the Belichick family's latest headline-making moments. Yet the biggest reaction came not from the court's next move, but from what Jennifer Schmitt Belichick did afterward.
Bill Belichick's family has found itself back in the spotlight, but this time the attention isn't centered on the legendary football coach himself.
Instead, his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Schmitt Belichick, has sparked fresh conversation after sharing an eyebrow-raising social media post that appeared to address her latest legal situation in an unexpectedly playful way.

A Court Appearance That Never Happened
According to PEOPLE, a Brunswick District Court judge in North Carolina issued an arrest warrant for Jennifer Schmitt Belichick on Monday, July 13. The warrant was issued after Jennifer, who is married to Bill Belichick's son and North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing on July 10.
Authorities had reportedly attempted to reach her by phone on the day of the hearing but were unsuccessful, setting up the court's next move.
The Traffic Stop That Led to the Case
The matter dates back to May 21, when Jennifer was cited during a traffic stop by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. According to the New York Post, she was accused of driving 88 mph in a 70 mph zone, a speed that required her to appear before a judge rather than pay a fine.
North Carolina law treats certain speeding offenses more seriously than standard traffic infractions. As explained by Enright & Cagle Attorneys, drivers accused of traveling more than 80 mph must generally appear in court.
If they fail to do so, the court automatically issues an arrest order, and after 20 days, the DMV is notified to suspend the driver's license until the case is resolved.

The law firm also notes that failing to appear is treated as a separate misdemeanor offense, meaning a missed court date can turn a routine traffic case into a criminal matter and may carry additional penalties beyond the original citation.
A North Carolina law firm also notes that driving 16 mph or more above the posted speed limit carries steeper penalties than lower-level speeding violations, underscoring why this case moved beyond a standard ticket.
A court official told PEOPLE that Jennifer has several ways to resolve the matter. She can voluntarily surrender to authorities, ask the court to recall or strike the warrant, or hire an attorney to handle the case on her behalf.
Then Came Her Unexpected Response
Rather than issuing a public statement, Jennifer appeared to respond through an Instagram Story shared just hours after news of the arrest order surfaced, shifting the story from court action to social media.
The Story, posted to her Instagram account, showed someone holding up a smartphone displaying the New York Post's article inside what appeared to be a busy bar or restaurant.
In the background, two smiling women hugged while drinks sat on a nearby table, creating a carefree atmosphere for such a headline. Across the image, Jennifer added the bold message: "I HIRED AN ATTORNEY!!!!!" But it wasn't just the caption that caught people's attention; the choice of music added another layer to the response.
According to the New York Post, Jennifer paired the Story with P. Diddy, Black Rob, and Mark Curry's "Bad Boy for Life," a tongue-in-cheek music choice that many viewed as adding an extra layer of humor to her response.

Not Her First Family Headline
The latest development comes amid recent reports of tension within the Belichick family, adding another layer to the attention around her case.
According to Yahoo Sports, Jennifer was recently reported to be involved in a heated family dispute over her father-in-law's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. However, those reports are unrelated to her current traffic case.
Jennifer and Steve married in June 2017 after dating for several years and are now parents to four children, according to The U.S. Sun.

Social Media Viewers Weigh In
Jennifer's arrest and reaction to the order quickly became another talking point as readers debated both the order and Jennifer's response. One Facebook viewer wrote, "Entitled." Another commented, "Why not impose the ticket and penalty for not showing up to fight the ticket? Let her pay the fine and go about her life?"
A third person remarked, "Don't you know she is above the law????" Meanwhile, another commenter took a lighter view of the situation, writing, "A speeding ticket.... lol."
