Steve Harvey Slammed for 'Rich People Don't Sleep 8 Hours a Day' Remark
Steve Harvey is now facing major backlash after saying that rich people "don't sleep 8 hours a day." This statement of his was met with heavy criticism, as people continue to slam him for speaking from such a privileged platform.
Steve Harvey claims that sleeping eight hours a day stops a person from "securing the bag," and it's safe to say people do not agree with his statement, as rich people definitely have the privilege of sleeping 8 hours a day.
In his own talk show, he said that "rich people don't sleep 8 hours a day," in response to a video clip that has gone viral.
The Controversial Comment
“That’s a third of your life. It ain’t but 24 hours in a day. You cannot be sleep eight hours a day. You can’t live in L.A. and wake up at 8 o’ clock in the morning. It’s 11 o ‘clock on the east coast. The stock market [has] been open two hours. They already making decisions about your life and your a-s was sleep.”
On Steve's end, it was supposed to be a harmless comment and was meant to be motivational. The "Steve Harvey Show" host even posted his full speech online, putting its title as "Get Outside of Your Comfort Zone."
What you got to do to get the life that God wants you to have…expand yourself. Take yourself out your comfort zone,” Harvey said. “If you stay in your comfort zone that’s where you will fail…Success is not a comfortable procedure.”
That post seems to put the clip into context, but people were just not happy with what he said.
Steve's controversial past
It's not the first time Steve's been put on the hot seat, especially since he's been in the industry for decades. In fact, it's not just fans that he's had disagreements with, but even colleagues and good friends such as comedian Mo'Nique, who even allegedly threatened to slap Steve after her asked for such an insulting request.
Mo'Nique is known for her Netflix boycott after she was offered only $500,000 for a standup special, which she claimed was too low, citing gender and color bias. She compared her offer to other comedians who got millions.
When the entertainer visited her good friend Steve on his show, they ended up in an argument. It all began when Steve asked her to apologize to Whoopi Goldberg, Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, and Oprah Winfrey.
Mo'Nique was ultimately insulted by this and threatened to slap Steve because of it. In the end, Steve replied saying her husband would have to come out and square off.
Now, Harvey has a lot on his plate again thanks to his latest comment, and it'll only be a matter of time til he releases a statement about it, too.
