Michelle Obama, Her Mom, Daughters Malia & Sasha Pose in All-White for Mother's Day Photo

Michelle Obama penned a touching Mother’s Day tribute. She recalled fond memories of her mother growing up as she shared a photo of them with her two daughters all dressed in white.

Michelle Obama lovingly remembered her childhood and her mother, Marian Robinson’s listening ear when she greeted her on Mother’s day this year.

ALL DRESSED IN WHITE

The former first lady’s Instagram page saw white on the special occasion dedicated to moms as she shared a photo where Marian sits in the middle and is surrounded by Michelle and her two daughters, Sasha and Malia. The ladies were all in white making for a stunning family portrait.

A TRUE LISTENER

Accompanying the photo was a beautifully written tribute to Marian who Michelle describes as more of a listener than a lecturer. She drew out memories from her childhood as well as her days as the first lady that exhibited her mother’s knack for listening.

“Growing up, every time I’d come home from school with a story to share, my mother was there with a snack and a listening ear to hear about what was on my mind,” she began.

“When I came home with a tale about my disastrous second-grade classroom, she marched into the school to figure out what was going on.”

“And as I grew older, including up through my years as First Lady, she was always there for me as a guiding light through whatever fog was clouding my path.”

“From an early age, she saw that I had a flame inside me, and she never tempered it."

Michelle further adds that her mother “listened more than she lectured” and “observed more than she demonstrated,” qualities she now believes helped her find her own voice.

“From an early age, she saw that I had a flame inside me, and she never tempered it,” Michelle continues. “She made sure that I could keep it lit.”

And lit Michelle certainly is. Apart from being the wife of a former US president and a mother to two great daughters, she's an accomplished lawyer and more recently, a bestselling author. Many women admire her for her wisdom, grace, and strength, and Michelle has her mother to thank for that. She ends her message with gratefulness.

“Mom, thank you for kindling that fire within me, and for your example as a mother and a grandmother to our girls.We would never be who we are today without you.”

PASSING ON HER MOTHER'S WISDOM

A few days earlier, Michelle also praised her mother for teaching her the wonders and importance of travel, something she also imparts to her daughters today.

“Even though our family was crammed into a tiny apartment, one of the greatest gifts she [Marian] gave me was the freedom to explore and develop into my own person,” she wrote on Instagram sharing a photo from a vacation with her daughters.

A PERFECT ROLE MODEL

One person who’s also grateful to Marian for raising Michelle right is Barack Obama. On Mother’s Day, he praised his wife for being “the perfect role model.”

“Happy Mother's Day to the most caring, brilliant, funny, and grounded woman I know,” he wrote. “A perfect role model not just for our daughters, but so many others.”

He also surprised her with a video during the final leg of her book tour where he spoke of her extraordinary journey as a mother and professional.
