On Friday, reality star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian shared the first picture of her newborn baby boy Psalm West. Unexpectedly, her post led to a doctor giving her advice on how to put a baby safely to sleep.

The image Kim Kardashian, 38, shared showed little Psalm West snuggled up in a white blanket while sleeping in his bow-bedecked crib. A number of people posted about their fascination over the little boy’s name, but another group, including doctors, noticed something else.

Some parents shared their concern over how baby Psalm was sleeping. The image Kardashian posted was actually part of a screenshot of text messages that her husband, Kanye West, 41, forwarded to her.

Psalm was placed on top of a large white cushion which was placed on the crib. What parents and some doctors noted was that the position was actually not safe for a baby.

Dr. Jen Trachtenberg, a pediatrician, noticed the post and decided to give Kardashian some advice. She tweeted: “As a huge social media influencer, @KimKardashian so many people follow you and it can be confusing when seeing these adorable baby images and then may think it’s safe to do for their own baby. #sids #somedocs #tweetiatrician #medtwitter #womeninMedicine.”

SIDS is an acronym for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. It’s a term which is used for unexplained deaths of otherwise healthy babies.

The baby’s deaths usually occur while they are in bed. SIDS is thought to be caused by faulty brain signals that regulate breathing, however, other factors involved in a baby's sleeping arrangements could increase the risk of death.

According to the Mayo Clinic, soft sleeping surfaces, overheating, and sleeping on the stomach or side all put a baby at risk. A fan with the handle @GillilandClare picked up on the SIDS risk.

The person wrote: “I can’t help it: all I can see are SIDS risks, it’s my job. Cot bumpers restricting air flow, loose covers and things under his head.” Someone named David A. Cohen posted an info graph called “Safe Sleep Guidelines.”

Cohen wrote: “‏ "Please follow safe sleep habits. It can reduce the risk of SIDS. Everything about this picture causes me anxiety. #SIDSAwareness #LostMyDaughterToSIDS #LoveTheKardashians”

Ryan Moto Kawamoto added:

“1. Congrats! 2. Anyone else freaking out about all the blankets & bumpers?! American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping the crib free of blankets & pillows until baby is 12 months old, as these can create a suffocation hazard. @kanyewest Just looking out for a fellow dad :)”

Another Twitter commentator with the handle @muchtoofoolish noted:

“OMG - i came here to say the same. And I am further mortified by the “lets talk about the name” instead of this SIDS death trap. This isn’t the first time @KimKardashian has made a poor choice like this. I feel bad for the nanny - she should make them sign a waiver.”

The reality star announced the birth of her son, who came via surrogate, via social media. Her message read: “Beautiful Mother’s Day with the arrival of our fourth child. We are blessed beyond measure. We have everything we need.”

It continued: “Here’s here and he’s perfect!” Kardashian is now a mother of four including daughters Chicago, 15 months, and North, who’ll be 6 next month.

Her other son is named Saint, 3.
