Alan Alda's Secret to His Happy 62-Year Marriage with Wife Arlene
Alan Alda opened up about the strong bond he shares with his wife of 61 years and credited it all to a surprising trait.
Alda explained during an interview with Us Weekly that his wife, Arlene Alda, has a hilarious trick for making their relationship of 61 years work.
“[Arlene] says the secret to a long marriage is a short memory,” Alan said. During the same exclusive chat, he also told the source that his wife is the best holidays present for him.
The couple has always remained vocal about their sweet romance and the special connection that they share with each other.
Previously, Alan went on record to open up about the surprising way in which their romance flared.
Speaking during a visit to Today, the actor stated that they met each other during a party and were brought together by a rum cake that the hostess of the evening had made.
"The hostess of the evening had made a rum cake, and she put it on the refrigerator to cool," Alan said. "The refrigerator shook, and the cake fell off the refrigerator and hit the floor."
Following the incident, only two people in the party actually were desperate enough to grab a spoon and eat the cake right off the floor. They were Alan and Arlene.
"That's how you know. When two people eat a cake off the floor, that's it for life,” Alan joked.
He further jokingly suggested that young people should use this metric for finding their partners rather than following all the “matchmaking on the Internet.”
In July last year, the actor also candidly spoke about his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in an interview on “CBS This Morning.”
He explained during the show that he decided to get tested for the disease after reading an article about the early symptoms of Parkinson’s.
Despite being diagnosed, Alan explained that he is busy living his life to the fullest. He is also keeping himself busy inspiring others who are struggling with a similar condition.
Earlier this year, he delivered a heartfelt speech, looking back on his career in acting, while receiving the Screen Actors Guild lifetime awards.
