Whoopi Goldberg Shuts down Meghan McCain During Tense Abortion Discussion on 'The View'

Whoopi Goldberg shut down Meghan McCain during a recent discussion about abortion on “The View.” The tense exchange comes barely a week after it was reported that Goldberg has had enough of McCain's attitude.

Things got heated between Goldberg and McCain on the Monday, June 10th episode of the ABC show as the co-hosts discussed abortion laws and their place in the forthcoming elections.

Goldberg, 63, opened the “Hot Topics” segment and introduced the controversial topic, citing the example of a friend who is an Alabama resident and whose body is medically rejecting her pregnancy.

After confirming that ectopic pregnancies are a valid exception in Alabama’s anti-abortion law, the famed actress said: “There are other issues that happen with our bodies that I just don’t know if they’re gonna protect these women.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin took it from there, saying that even though her Catholic faith places her against abortion, allowing the act only in the case of a rape conviction is not exactly practical.

Guest host Ana Navarro also chimed in, noting that abortion decisions should always be about protecting the victim’s interest.

As Goldberg was about to round off the topic and cut to commercials, McCain, who had remained silent all the while, butted in: “So I don’t get to talk? Just wondering if I can say something?”

“I just wanted to say...” McCain continued, but Goldberg shut her down effortlessly:

“Hold on! Now you put it out there like that. I let you all talk and I said nothing. We have to go to break, if there’s more to say, if you want to say more then we’ll come back and say more, Okay?”

“It’s fine,” the 34-year-old mumbled as the show went on a break.

Goldberg and McCain’s tense exchange comes a week after Daily Mail claimed that the older colleague is fed up with the younger woman who is known for her outbursts and regular sparring with another co-host, Joy Behar.

“Whoopi is at her breaking point with Meghan,” a source reportedly told the outlet. “She's been trying to hang in there, especially keep the peace with Meghan and Joy, but we all know she's about to break.”

Back in February, McCain was engaged in a tense back-and-forth with Behar, 76, and in April, Goldberg had to cut to commercial after her colleagues got into a heated debate.
