Rihanna Has Emotional Reunion with 'Mentor' Teacher at ICC Cricket World Cup Match
Rihanna's tearful reunion with her school mentor became the highlight of a cricket match she attended in London. "I haven't seen him in years!" she said as she shared a clip of their emotional hug.
Rihanna’s day at a cricket match turned emotional when she reconnected with her former teacher.
It was clearly a pleasant moment for Rihanna who didn’t hold back her tears when she bumped into her former mentor, Mr. Roddy Estwick at a cricket tournament in London.
RIHANNA SHARES AN EMOTIONAL MOMENT WITH HER MENTOR
The 31-year-old posted a clip on her Instagram stories of their sweet reunion revealing her emotional reaction. They shared a hug as the singer sniffed while rubbing her towering teacher’s back.
“This was my teacher from school! He was a mentor and father figure to me. I haven’t seen him in years!” Rihanna explained in a caption for her clip. She soon shared a photo of her hugging him and wrote,
“My mentor, my champ, my MVP, my school teacher, my first “JayBrown”… #MrEstwick! You made my day.”
"I just wanted to let everyone know what he meant to me in my development and what he did for us back at school in Barbados."
SHE REVEALS HOW IMPORTANT HE IS TO HER
Estwick was Rihanna’s teacher at Barbados’ Combermere School. She told Barbados Today he was one of the reasons she watched the cricket match that day.
“I love this man. I came here to see the match and was cheering West Indies to a victory. They played great but we just didn't make it. But I also wanted to see Mr Estwick.”
Rihanna further detailed how Estwick had a “lasting impact” on her life.
“He really offered great advice to me and many others when we were at school at Combermere. I just wanted to let everyone know what he meant to me in my development and what he did for us back at school in Barbados."
"...she came down to the dressing room as well and met quite a few of the players and that was also refreshing."
RIHANNA'S PRESENCE WAS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED
Rihanna’s presence at the game was also a pleasant surprise to West Indies captain Jason Holder who was grateful to the singer for expressing her support for the team.
“I just want to personally thank her for coming out," he said. "I guess it's not easy for a celebrity to come down to Durham to watch the West Indies play. But I'm sure the boys felt her presence in the stands and she came down to the dressing room as well and met quite a few of the players and that was also refreshing."
Rihanna’s team didn’t win that match but she certainly won a lot of hearts that day.
SOMEBODY ELSE HAS WON HER HEART
And speaking of winning hearts, the singer recently confessed that her heart has been won by her billionaire boyfriend, Hassan Jameel.
She opened up in an article for Interview magazine and admitted being in love. Jameel is a wealthy businessman from a prominent family in Saudi Arabia. In fact, he hails from the 12th richest family in the Middle East.
Rihanna and Jameel have been spotted trotting the globe since they began their romance sometime in 2017. And while they were once rumored to have broken up, they remain a solid item to this day.
Asked if marriage was on the horizon, Rihanna was cryptic when she answered, "We plan and then God laughs, right?" One thing is certain, though, according to the singer, "I got into a new relationship, and it matters to me.”
