The music icon once said that she would never argue with her beloved husband, Carl Dean.

“I’ve kept my marriage very personal and sacred, and try to keep my husband out of the news."

“I’d rather argue with anybody rather than Carl, ‘cause I don’t want that stuff between us,” she said in a 1981 interview.

“It would hurt my feelings too much if he got so mad that he said somethin’ really hard to me. It would just crush me and it would be the same with him if I said somethin’ really awful to him like people do when they’re really mad.”

The “I Will Always Love You” singer was only 18 years old when she met Carl Dean in Nashville. He was 21. They tied the knot in 1966 in Georgia. The couple doesn’t have children, but they live blissfully together.

A SERIOUS COMMITMENT

In her book “Dream More: Celebrate the Dreamer in You,” she spoke candidly about her marriage.

She writes, “I take commitment very seriously. You find its importance to me in every aspect of my life, but where it is most important to me is in my relationship with Carl. Like everyone else, we have our ups and downs, but we have always been and will always be committed to our love for each other.”

Carl Dean has always hidden from public eyes. He rarely accompanies his wife at public events. The couple, for the most part, has kept their married life away from the spotlight.

THE SECRET TO THEIR SOLID MARRIAGE

In 2017, the “Jolene” singer credited secrecy for her long-lasting marriage with Carl Dean.

“I’ve kept my marriage very personal and sacred, and try to keep my husband out of the news,” said the singer.

She added that being in the limelight was not what Dean had signed up for when he married her and that she loves him enough to keep him away from it.

Couples surely have a lesson or two to learn from Parton and Dean’s marriage.
