JD Scott of 'Property Brothers' Battles a Mysterious Illness

J.D. Scott recently opened up about an illness he has been suffering from for more than a year. The sickness has been dubbed mysterious as doctors still aren’t quite sure what it is.

“Property Brothers at Home” star, J.D. Scott, utilized his Instagram account to reveal details on his health and struggles the past 14 months, including the severe symptoms he experienced at the beginning.

The video is a little over 26 minutes long, showcasing Scott and his fiancee, Annalee Belle, who shared his intense sensitivity to temperatures above 70 degrees and having to stay in bed for days. Another symptom Scott felt was described as a “crawly feeling” inside his head.

FROM SICKNESS TO SICKNESS

The two narrated the series of tests Scott underwent, which led to doctors thinking he had “an autoimmune disease.” However, “after months and months,” the neurologists who examined him believed it to be “two brain aneurysms.”

Later on, a neurosurgeon told the couple the possibility that “a new pathway [that] had formed” in the home renovation pro’s brain -- an uncommon and lethal condition.

‘BACK TO SQUARE ONE’

The next professional the HGTV star consulted was a radiologist who was “99.9 percent sure” that he didn’t have an aneurysm, which completely devastated Scott and brought him “kind of back to square month.”

“The MRI’s were quick, but every appointment with a specialist took at least a month, if not several, to get in,” Belle shared.

Scott shared that the process has nothing been short of frustrating for him, feeling like a “bubble boy” who can’t seem to be cured and has lost many people in his life.

After more tests, a neurologist unveiled a condition called nummular headache, which explained the weird feeling Scott would feel in his head and was treated accordingly.

“He said to me, ‘It is possible that you’re not suffering from one thing, that it’s a few things that are culminating into these symptoms,” shared Scott.

CHANGE IN ACTIVITIES

Because of all the symptoms Scott felt, going about normal activities became a struggle, and everything had to be adjusted. In the video, he shared:

“Walking too much would bring on the symptoms. Heat would bring on the symptoms. So I was very limited in what I could do, But as long as I was within an area that I could control, I could actually do things.”

‘BUBBLE BOY'

Scott shared that the process has nothing been short of frustrating for him, feeling like a “bubble boy” who can’t seem to be cured and has lost many people in his life. However, the couple also took the time to thank those who have supported Scott in his difficult journey.

“A lot of people just haven’t checked in, and they know how bad it is. It’s felt kind of lonely,” says Belle, with Scott adding, “Not having the friends that you normally have is not fun.”

THE ENGAGEMENT

Scott and his makeup artist fiance were engaged on October 31 and announced the news a month after on Instagram where he shared a photo of him on one knee and another of the engagement ring. Scott’s brother, Drew congratulated his brother through Instagram.

Belle revealed the efforts Scott put into the proposal, describing it as “outrageous” with hidden cameras placed all over the moment to capture the spectacular moment.
