Joanna Gaines' 1-Year-Old Son Crew Takes His First Steps in Chip's Instagram Post
Just two days after Crew’s first birthday bash, the newest addition to the Gaines’ family is making strides on his own.
A child’s first steps marks a milestone for many parents, and Joanna and Chip couldn’t agree more. The dynamic duo were beside themselves when their adorable son, Crew, took his first steps shortly after he turned one. The couple have a large following on social media and naturally wanted the rest of the world to share this moment with them. In the photo Chip posted, his son can be seen standing on his own, with outstretched arms for daddy. Chip captioned the picture, “Little crew took his 1st steps today.. It was a good day!”
The couple, who own Magnolia Homes and star in HGTV’s reality series, "Fixer Upper", also proved they were excellent party planners when they put together a gorgeous nautical-themed do for Crew’s first birthday. Doting mom, Joanna, couldn’t resist posting pictures of all their hard work and joy.
“Ok I promise this is the last round of Crew's bday photos (for today ?), I just can't get over the fact that he is ONE and I also just really love his squishy legs,” she wrote on Instagram.
The birthday shoot includes snaps of Crew in a white-and-blue ensemble, with icing smeared across his chubby cheeks. Fairy lights have never looked so magical beside paper sailboats before!
The photo of Crew taking a bite out of his massive birthday cake is a definite winner and it’s even made it onto Joanna’s Magnolia blog, where she refers to Crew as "the greatest gift".
The love they have for little Crew can be felt when you scroll through their social media pages, but even though the couple has their hands full raising five children and building their careers, they still make time to support community initiatives. By starting the "Chip In Challenge", they managed to help raise $2 million in the fight against childhood cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In a moving post, Chip encouraged people to donate towards the cause.
Chip said in the post of him and professional runner Gabe (Gabriele Grunewald), “I want us to hit that $500K mark by midnight tonight. So I will be personally matching all #ChipInChallenge donations made between now and midnight. ON TOP OF THAT, I'll also be matching that amount in the form of a donation to the #BraveLikeGabe Foundation, in Gabe's honor.”
So committed is Chip to the fight against cancer, that he even had his head shaved clean.
Sadly, Chip and Joanna lost their friend Gabe last month after a decade-long battle with cancer. There’s a heartfelt post about the death on the Joanna’s Magnolia blog.
Despite this loss, the family carries on as best they can, trying to find meaning in life’s heartbreaking moments, and to see the blessings in the little things.
Joanna and Chip welcomed a new member to their family, then they lost a dear friend. Beginnings and endings are a part of life. Their show, the 'Fixer Upper', ended after five seasons, but the couple just dropped the promotional video for their new network. If the video is meant to be a teaser, mission accomplished. We couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead!
