Steph Curry Knew He'd 'Found the Right One' & Married Ayesha at 23

Steph Curry opened up about the real reason why he married Ayesha at such a young age and later proved his instincts were right. The couple now shares a strong union after eight years of marriage and three kids.

While most men are still trying to find themselves and enjoying their singlehood at the young age of 23, Stephen Curry was already married to Ayesha Curry at that age. And he has no regrets. In fact, he doesn’t see the point of prolonging marriage if the right woman already came along.

These were the sentiments of the NBA star during a 2016 interview with Graham Besinger who asked him point-blank, “Why’d you get married so young?”

“Why waste time when you’ve found the right one?” Stephen quickly responded.

THEY MET IN HIGH SCHOOL

Why, indeed. It’s not like he just met Ayesha when they tied the knot. In fact, the couple from Charlotte met in church when they were only in their teens. “He was the cute boy at church that all the girls we’re obsessed with,” according to Ayesha who didn’t think Stephen would be interested in her. And besides, they were too “focused on God” to pay attention to each other, she told Parents magazine. Plus, Ayesha wasn’t allowed to date in high school.

It was much later after Ayesha moved back to Charlotte as Stephen coursed through his junior year in Davidson College that they finally had their first kiss in the driveway of his parents’ house.

THEY RECONNECTED IN COLLEGE

It was only in college that they reconnected. Ayesha was aspiring to be an actress in Los Angeles and Stephen was also in the city for an ESPYs event. He looked her up on Facebook and they went on their first date in Hollywood Boulevard. Ayesha revealed she “dodged” Steph’s attempt to kiss her that time.

It was much later after Ayesha moved back to Charlotte as Stephen coursed through his junior year in Davidson College that they finally had their first kiss in the driveway of his parents’ house. It was the same spot where a 23-year-old Stephen proposed marriage to a 22-year-old Ayesha years later.

"I knew I had found the right woman and I wanted to start a life with her,” Steph said of his early proposal.

THEY KNOW THE SECRET TO A HAPPY MARRIAGE

The couple wed in 2011 and now share three children together, daughters Riley, 7 and Ryan, 4, and son, Canon, 1. According to Ayesha, the key to their lasting relationship is communication and putting each other first. That seems to be working considering the couple have made it through eight years of marriage and show no signs of faltering.

Steph certainly made the right decision by taking the leap at a young age. Ayesha is truly the right one because as he told Graham, “Life is good with her.”
