Daily Mail: Jada Pinkett-Smith Reveals Child Protective Services Was Once Called over Her Daughter Willow

Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about the day Child Services visited their home due to a curious photo of her daughter, Willow. She described that time as one of the "storms" their family survived.

Since Jada Pinkett-Smith began hosting her Facebook Watch show, “Red Table Talk,” she’s been very candid about her life, dishing out not just the good, but more interestingly, the bad.

She reasons that coming clean about the dirt in her life was nothing compared to what she and her family had to deal with way before she sat on the red table.

THE STORM THAT ROCKED HER FAMILY

For instance, she claims there was nothing worse than the “storm” that shook her family when Child Protection Services was called on her and her husband, Will Smith after a photo of their daughter, Willow Smith came to their attention.

Jada opened up about that unfortunate episode in her life during a sit down with Daily Mail at the London screening of the second season of her online show.

“We’ve survived so much as a family, so that’s one of the things I’m grateful for. We hold it down together and give each other that freedom to speak our truth.”

A CONTROVERSIAL PHOTO STARTED IT ALL

Willow was 13 at the time and she was featured in a photo with a 20-year-old man. They were on a bed and the man, her friend, Moises Arias, was shirtless. The photo was uploaded on Moises’ Tumblr page, alerting the concerned public of its implications.

Shortly after, the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services received an anonymous call worried about Willow’s welfare. Jada added that someone accused her of not feeding her daughter based on the photo.

“Once you’ve survived having child protection services come to your house because someone called and said, ‘You’re abusing Willow, you’re not feeding her’ … When you’ve gone through crazy stuff like that, whatever you’ve spoke about at the ‘Red Table Talk,’ doesn’t mean anything."

THE CPS VISIT AND JADA'S REACTION

Child Protection Services eventually dropped in on the Smiths to check on the situation but discovered Willow was far from being physically or emotionally abused. In fact, they found no reason to believe that she was in any form of danger around Moises.

At the time, Jada thought it was "not cool" for the photo to elicit that kind of reaction from people who would alert the government. She told TMZ before they were cleared,

“There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it. You’re acting like covert pedophiles, and that’s not cool.”

WHAT DIDN'T BREAK THEM ONLY MADE THEM STRONGER

Looking back, Jada believes that incident only made her family stronger and united to the core.

“We’ve been through so much as a family, it takes a lot to rock us,” she shared to the Daily Mail. “Once you’ve survived having child protection services come to your house because someone called and said,

‘You’re abusing Willow, you’re not feeding her’ … When you’ve gone through crazy stuff like that, whatever you’ve spoke about at the ‘Red Table Talk,’ doesn’t mean anything, due to the storms you’ve survived off of that table [and being so open].”

She adds,

“We’ve survived so much as a family, so that’s one of the things I’m grateful for. We hold it down together and give each other that freedom to speak our truth.”

WILLOW'S TRUTHS

Willow currently co-hosts “Red Table Talk” with her mother and her grandmother, Adrienne Banfield Jones. The 18-year-old has been very candid too about the dark periods in her life in the program.

She opened up about engaging in self-harm in the past and how growing up as the daughter of a famous father was a nightmare. She also confessed to being averse to monogamy.

Regardless of her past, Willow is close to her family which remains a solid unit despite the busy careers each member forges.

The Smiths also make sure they spend quality time together away from it all. In fact, they were recently on vacation in Europe and even brought along Willow’s rumored boyfriend, Tyler Cole.
