Shari Headley Will Be Back as Lisa McDowell in Eddie Murphy's 'Coming 2 America'
Shari Headley is set to reprise her role as Lisa McDowell on "Coming 2 America," the sequel of the hit '80s movie. She is the last to confirm her return on the film, completing its key characters for one more run at the box office.
Shari's character, Lisa McDowell, plays the love interest and wife of Eddie Murphy, who plays Prince Akeem. Shari rounds up the cast members who are returning for the sequel, as Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Paul Bates, and John Amos all announced their return as well.
The "Coming 2 America" Plot
Set to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, the plot follows Prince Akeem, played by Eddie Murphy, who is about to be crowned King of Zamuda when he discovers he has a son in America that he never knew about.
He goes back to America hoping to reconnect with his son, honoring his dying father's wish of grooming his grandson as the crowned prince. His son turns out to be a street-savvy Queens resident named Lavelle, and that is when the story gets even more interesting.
The First Blockbuster Hit
The first movie, "Coming to America," was released in 1988 and was directed by John Landis. It featured Murphy escaping an arranged marriage in his country by traveling to New York, where he meets different types of people and eventually falls in love with Shari's character.
Grossing almost $300 million worldwide, its producers thought it was a good idea to give it a sequel three decades later.
The New Movie's Crew
The upcoming movie will be directed by Craig Brewer, and its producers include Eddie Murphy, Kevin Misher, and Kenya Barris.
Before Shari, John Amos, who plays her dad Cleo McDowell, announced that he will be joining the movie as well.
With such a star-studded cast that has been seasoned through the years, fans can expect a star-studded blockbuster movie that hits close to home.
