Serena Williams' Daughter Is 'Hanging on Momma' a Day before Her Finals Match Injury
Serena Williams’ adorable daughter, Olympia Ohanian, is pictured hanging on to her superstar mom a day before the tennis champion broke down in tears after coming down with an injury in a Finals match.
Olympia will be two in less than a month, but it doesn’t look like she’ll be outgrowing her love for mommy anytime soon.
In a photo shared to Instagram on August 10, Serena, wearing a visor and athletic gear, balanced her little one on the hip and seemed to be using the sidewalk.
What made the image even cuter was how Olympia grabbed her mom’s shirt as though to say, “I’m not letting you go, mama.” The toddler was all smiles, too, so she was probably having the time of her life in mommy’s hands.
SOCIAL MEDIA REACTIONS
“Always hanging on momma,” read the caption which was posted to Olympia’s Instagram page. Fans of the mommy-daughter duo trooped to the comment section to rave over their bond.
“Gorgeous Mama and little lady,” wrote one Instagram user who also included several love-struck emojis.
“Forever Momma’s girl,” chimed in another while a third fan dubbed Serena and Olympia: “The QUEEN and her Princess.”
SERENA'S ROUGH DAY
Only a day after the picture popped up on Instagram, Serena, 37, would pull out of the Rogers Cup (Canadian Open) in Toronto as a result of back spasms.
Serena -- who has been pushing to win a title since welcoming Olympia in 2017 -- had advanced to the finals where she was to face Canadian player Bianca Andreescu, 19.
Only four games into the first set of the August 11 game, back spasms subdued the tennis legend, and she eventually had to retire from the match, making Bianca the winner.
TEARS AT A GAME
Serena couldn’t help it as she sat on the sidelines and shed tears over another missed opportunity. Just last month, she failed to clinch her 24th Grand Slam title after Simona Halep defeated her at Wimbledon finals.
Cameras captured as Bianca walked over to comfort a tearful Serena and the heartwarming moment was enough to get the crowd cheering.

MOVING ON
Serena addressed the arena, later on, saying:
“I'm sorry I couldn't do it today, I tried. But I just couldn't do it. Thanks to Jehovah for letting me even come out here. And Bianca, you're a great sportswoman. And thanks for my team. It's been a tough year but we'll keep going.”
THE MAGIC OF FAMILY
Serena’s “tough year” includes having to pull out of 5 of 7 events due to injury, but if there’s anyone who can help her feel better, it’s her family.
Serena has been married since November 2017 to tech mogul Alexis Ohanian. The couple met in 2015 at a hotel in Rome and was engaged by December the following year. Their daughter, Olympia, made her world debut on September 1, 2017.
Last year, before the controversial US Open final match that saw her lashing out at chair umpire Carlos Ramos, Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, compiled a video tribute celebrating her achievements.
Serena eventually lost the game to Naomi Osaka and would be fined for several code violations, but little Olympia, only a year old at the time, knew how to comfort her mom.
SMART OLYMPIA
Narrating the moments following her controversial loss, Serena said:
“I got in the car, and Olympia was in the car. It was so weird, and she started giving me kisses, she never gives me kisses. She doesn’t even know how to give kisses, and she just grabbed me, and I was like this little baby is so smart.”
We're wondering how little Miss Olympia must have made Serena feel better after the latter had to resign from her Rogers Cup final match.
