'The Hills' Star Brody Jenner Confirms He & Now Ex-Wife Kaitlynn Carter Were Never Legally Married
More than a month after their announced split, Brody Jenner confirms that he and Kaitlynn Carter were never married.
In just one year of a fairytale wedding in Indonesia, Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter called it quits in August.
However, their split has not been without controversy as there have been speculations that Jenner and Carter were never actually legally married.
"We just haven't gotten around to going to do it in the whole courthouse."
Well, the rumors were finally confirmed by Brody as seen in a sneak peek of "The Hills: New Beginnings" season finale.
As reported by PEOPLE, Monday's episode of the reality show saw co-stars clashing with Brody and Kaitlynn over the exact status of their marriage.
However, it was his confrontation with Spencer Pratt that got him spilling the truth.
In a heart-to-heart talk with Pratt as seen in a clip uploaded on Twitter, Brody insisted that the absence of a marriage certificate didn't prove that their relationship had problems.
He explained that before the destination wedding in Indonesia, they met with attorneys, but they couldn't finalize it because they have been busy since then.
Brody said:
"We just haven't gotten around to going to do it in the whole courthouse or however we're going to decide to get legally married. Like I said, whether you put it on a piece of paper or have just a celebration in Indonesia, we're married, and she's my wife, and I love her to death."
In another scene of Brody and Spencer discussing as seen on Facebook, the 36-year-old son admitted again that he and Carter never got legally married.
"Let me tell you something about marriage — there's a lot of legality involved. I don't believe in the whole signing part of it, but everything else — I'm with it, Brody said."
Buzzfeed reveals that Kaitlynn also affirmed that they were never legally married during a testimonial in the season finale.
It was reported that Carter said that she and Brody were overwhelmed with the planning of the Indonesian wedding and decided to focus solely on it and not the formality of legalizing their union.
The couple's reps announced their split, saying:
"Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate. They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward."
Days after the announcement, Carter was photographed kissing Miley Cyrus while on vacation in Italy, proving that she had no problem moving on.
