Michelle Obama Shows off Her Toned Abs in New Inspirational Workout Photo & Celebrates Self-Care

Michelle Obama encourages fans to take care of their health as she hits the gym on #SelfCareSunday.  The 55-year-old also bared her toned abs wearing workout gear.

Michelle Obama recently gave fans a rare glimpse of her workout routine as she inspires them to get into the habit of self-care.

"...seeing that her husband, Barack Obama found time to work out every day in spite of his busy schedule, she thought there was no reason for her not to make time for her health too."

Michelle’s flat stomach is the first thing you’ll notice in the photo she shared of her doing some weight lifting at the gym. Clearly endowed with hard-earned abs, the 55-year-old mother-of-two lunges as she lifts a giant ball above her head with her two outstretched toned arms.

An article on Oprah Magazine revealed the secret to achieving Michelle's toned arms. According to the Obamas' trainer, Cornell McClellan, "It is a combination of diet, cardio, and weight training."

When I was at the White House, I often hosted bootcamp weekends for my close girlfriends. It didn’t matter that we were all at varying fitness levels. Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. And even though I’m no longer at the White House, I've continued this tradition and wanted to share some photos. My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years – including a pretty big one recently! – and we’ve done our best to stay healthy together. Whether it’s a bootcamp or a walk around the neighborhood, I hope you and your crew can find some time this summer to be healthy together.

Michelle’s caption is one that inspires. “It doesn’t always feel good in the moment. But after the fact, I’m always glad I hit the gym," she writes.

Her post which ends with the challenge, "How did you all take care of yourself on this #SelfCareSunday?"  is proof that the former first lady practices what she preaches. She is a staunch advocate for self-care and has many times in the past expressed its value especially for women.

"...she’s hoping her healthy lifestyle would enable her to enjoy her life and make it to her 70’s and 80’s."

During an appearance at the Essence Festival where she discussed her bestselling book, “Becoming,” Michelle told host Gayle King that women need to pay attention to their wellness.

"When it comes to our health as women, we are so busy giving and doing for others that we almost feel guilty to take that time out for ourselves," she said.

She added that as a mother she understands this because of the seeming lack of time to work out. But seeing that her husband, Barack Obama found time to work out every day in spite of his busy schedule, she thought there was no reason for her not to make time for her health too.

Michelle told People in 2014 that she’s hoping her healthy lifestyle would enable her to enjoy her life and make it to her 70’s and 80’s. As such, she has engaged in all sorts of exercise including weight lifting, heavy cardio, and yoga.

An article on Oprah Magazine revealed the secret to achieving Michelle's toned arms. According to the Obamas' trainer, Cornell McClellan, "It is a combination of diet, cardio, and weight training." He adds that it's important not to simply focus on the arms but to focus on "building shoulders" too because it "helps the arms appear more defined."

McClellan also shared an easy 6-step workout routine to guarantee these results.
