Ghanaian actress Akosua Busia, better known for her role as Nettie in the 1985 film “The Color Purple,” is the proud mother of a beautiful 22-year-old college student: Hadar Busia-Singleton.

The girl was born from Akosua’s short-lived marriage to late “Boyz ‘N The Hood” director, John Singleton, with whom she had a complicated relationship for a while.

REMEMBERING JOHN

However, after the director’s passing last April, Akosua has been making sure to keep Singleton’s memory alive for the sake of their daughter.

The talented young lady made history as the first-ever Ghanaian student to graduate from that school, and her parents couldn’t have been prouder.

Last week, Busia took to Instagram to share a series of pics she found in her vault of memories from a special day she spent with Hadar and John at the beach.

In two of the adorable snapshots, a young Hadar hugs her daddy as they pose in front of the sea. And in the other one, Hadar and Akosua gave their better smiles to the camera, looking like twins under the sun.

“Unpacking my shipment; forgotten photos snatch my breath,” Akosua captioned the post.

“A day on Labardi beach; appears like an intense look goodbye... @hadsy in search of #johnsingleton #Heaven will hold many surprises #Ibelieve.”

The post was received with love from some of Akosua’s followers, who took her comment section to gush about the beautiful memories and to show appreciation for Singleton’s time with his family.

CO-PARENTING ISSUES

Although, for the most part, Akosua and John had a friendly relationship, the exes hit a rough patch in 2015, when Busia filed a complaint in court accusing Singleton of failing to honor their custody agreement.

The “Tears of the Sun” star alleged that, per their agreement, Singleton was obligated to pay for half of Hadar’s education and extracurricular activities. However, he failed to do so, sending Busia into debt.

According to Bossip, Busia claimed in court documents that:

“John’s failure to honor the court order and our other agreements with respect to the payment of Hadar’s tuition has caused me to go into debt to pay for our daughter’s education and has caused both myself and Hadar great emotional suffering.”

She wanted Singleton to pay her more than $200,000. It is not clear if they came to a settlement.

MAKING HISTORY

Still, the following year, the exes reunited at Hadar’s graduation from Interlochen Arts Academy, one of the most prestigious performing arts school in America.

The talented young lady made history as the first-ever Ghanaian student to graduate from that school, and her parents couldn’t have been prouder.

Nowadays, Hadar seems to be interested in modeling and acting, just like her mother. And she splits her time between New York, Ghana, and Brazil.
