So it came as no surprise that Shantel Carrillo, a second-time mom, was excited to visit the hospital for an ultrasound photo—but what awaited her was breathtaking.

Pregnancy comes with a truckload of changes to the woman's body and routines, but the joy of witnessing a new life with its adorable features is enough to erase the bouts of discomfort.

Many moms yearn to see their unborn kids through scans at intervals. This is not only aimed at advancing the connection between mother and child but also defining the pregnant mother's expectations, especially when there is a peculiarity attached to their child.

For Shantel Carrillo, a San Diego mother of one, who was expecting her second child, her ultrasound test proved the baby's progress, but it ended up reassuring her of her father's unwavering love.

SHANTEL CARRILLO'S ALMOST DIFFICULT ULTRASOUND

In 2019, Shantel Carrillo, a resident of Santee, visited the hospital for a regular check-up. Her partner, Bryce Vinson, was there to catch a glimpse of their future daughter.

Carrillo was excited about the 20-week ultrasound, but the fetus refused to show up when it was time. The baby was wiggling, and it was almost impossible for the radiologist to take a shot of her face.

Eventually, the machine captured a side profile of the fetus, and the couple left to share the good news: the baby's progress and snap with family and friends on social media.

AN UNUSUAL ULTRASOUND

When the couple glanced at the ultrasound, they did not notice anything out of the ordinary. However, once the ultrasound photo was shared on Facebook, many commenters pointed out something unique.

First, a woman wrote that an angel was kissing the baby. This prompted Carrillo to look closely at the image. Shockingly, she agreed with the commenter and even made sense of the entire structure.

Carrillo observed how the angel leaning close to her child was her father! Later, the expectant mom told a news outlet that her daddy was bending over to kiss his granddaughter on the lips.

The overwhelmed mother wanted a second opinion, and she sent the image to her closest relatives, and like her, they saw a vivid picture of her dad. Eventually, the Santee resident interpreted the photo as the one her dad took a few years ago with her first child, Myree Pacheco.

In the image, he wore a red face cap that overlapped his smiling face as he looked at the infant. Carrillo also highlighted his unique cheeks and nose, which she noticed in the ultrasound image.

CARRILLO'S REDDIT POST AND THE COMMENTS IT ATTRACTED

After the Facebook post, she proudly shared the image on Reddit, and as expected, the unique shot went viral. What followed were the likes and comments of many other Reddit users. Some were in awe of the angelic pose, while a few others accused her of photoshopping the image.

Carrillo vehemently denied the allegations, adding that she was unsure about her photo interpretation. However, likening it to her dad overlooking his unborn grandchild is the most soothing experience.

She said: "It does look a lot like my dad. And it's awesome, and you know, it could be him, just saying, 'Hey, I'm here, and it's all good,'" Carrillo said. "Or it could be that placenta just looks like my dad, which is awesome too. It's just a cool picture to have; it just is what it is."

CARRILLO'S RESOLVE

Through the doubts, she reminisced about how it felt to have the ultrasound. According to Carrillo, nothing unusual happened that day for her to feel her dad's presence. However, she maintained that she was not surprised it could be her dad trying to pop in and say hello. The expectant mother added:

"It could very well be him - you never know. It's so his character, that's just so my dad."

Carrillo, who lost her dad in 2016, was upset he would not be around to witness the birth of her second child when the time came. Following her pregnancy, she often prayed that he would keep watch over her babies and protect her. Thankfully, somehow, this prayer came to pass!

The mother-of-two is confident her dad is vigilant and carrying out his duty despite his absence. As for Pacheco, who also confessed to missing grandpa and was lucky enough to have him around for a while, she was overwhelmed by the picture. The young lady revealed:

"I was shocked, I was like, 'Wow, it looked like my grandpa.' I kind of think it is him."

Carrillo became a mother again in 2020, following the birth of her second daughter, and hopefully, grandpa was present to witness one of the joyful moments of his daughter's life.
