Mama Cax, Amputee Model and Disability Advocate, Passes Away at Only 30
The family of Mama Cax revealed she died following a week in the hospital. The model/advocate told fans days earlier that she was rushed to the ER due to severe pains.
Model Mama Cax, an inspiring torchbearer for the disabled has passed away at the young age of 30.
DETAILS SURROUNDING HER DEATH
Born Cacsmy Brutus, Cax reportedly spent a week in the hospital before she died. A statement on her Instagram account further revealed she died on December 16 and “fought her last days on earth.”
At 14, she battled an aggressive form of bone and lung cancer that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs.
Less than a week before her death, Cax, a known blogger, disclosed that she was rushed to an ER in London while doing a photoshoot there. She experienced severe abdominal pain which turned out to be a result of blood clots in her leg, thigh, abdomen and in an area near her lungs.
At the time she updated her fans about her condition, she had already been released from the hospital. She said she had “lots of unanswered questions” but was experiencing less pain due to rest and blood thinners she was taking.
Cax hoped to be back in the United States after Christmas explaining she couldn’t fly right away due to the risk of a pulmonary embolism.
THE LOSS OF A TRAILBLAZER
Cax’s death is a blow to the industry which gained inspiration from her strength. At 14, she battled an aggressive form of bone and lung cancer that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs.
This didn’t hinder her, though, from making waves in the runway. In fact, she became a hit because she bravely flaunted her prosthetic by decorating it with colorful designs.

If Game Of Thrones had sparkles . Me looking at my crutches on the ground and out of frame knowing full well I can’t walk without them. 💁🏾♀️ . Many of my crutch user followers often ask about why I don’t photograph with my crutches? If I was ashamed of them? If I don’t use them all the time? Your questions shall be answered- In my early adult years, I was ashamed of them but not anymore, I use them full time except for when I’m home hopping to the fridge for snacks. They are rarely photographed because they are accessories sus 💁🏾♀️ can’t be seen with the same accessories in every pic. #mamacax #beckywiththeoneleg ______________________________________________
In July, she told MSNBC that her interactions with people changed after she decided to proudly show off her prosthetic. This opened doors for the inclusion of the disabled and women of color in an industry that once had a limited concept of what a model should look like.
Cax has been a force in the scene modeling for Tommy Hilfiger, Sephora and other fashion labels. Rihanna also enlisted her to grace her runway for her Savage X Fenty line.
