DETAILS SURROUNDING HER DEATH

Born Cacsmy Brutus, Cax reportedly spent a week in the hospital before she died. A statement on her Instagram account further revealed she died on December 16 and “fought her last days on earth.”

At 14, she battled an aggressive form of bone and lung cancer that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs.

Less than a week before her death, Cax, a known blogger, disclosed that she was rushed to an ER in London while doing a photoshoot there. She experienced severe abdominal pain which turned out to be a result of blood clots in her leg, thigh, abdomen and in an area near her lungs.

At the time she updated her fans about her condition, she had already been released from the hospital. She said she had “lots of unanswered questions” but was experiencing less pain due to rest and blood thinners she was taking.

THE LOSS OF A TRAILBLAZER

Cax’s death is a blow to the industry which gained inspiration from her strength. At 14, she battled an aggressive form of bone and lung cancer that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs.

This didn’t hinder her, though, from making waves in the runway. In fact, she became a hit because she bravely flaunted her prosthetic by decorating it with colorful designs.

In July, she told MSNBC that her interactions with people changed after she decided to proudly show off her prosthetic. This opened doors for the inclusion of the disabled and women of color in an industry that once had a limited concept of what a model should look like.

Cax has been a force in the scene modeling for Tommy Hilfiger, Sephora and other fashion labels. Rihanna also enlisted her to grace her runway for her Savage X Fenty line.

RIHANNA'S TRIBUTE

With the news of Cax’s death, the singer was one of the first to pay tribute describing the young model as “A queen. A force. A powerhouse beauty that brought her strength to the @savagexfenty stage.”

Other celebrities and beauty brands likewise tweeted their sadness over the loss of Cax who made a great impact while she was alive.

Meanwhile, Cax’s family acknowledges that her death would be felt globally but asked that they be given privacy at this time. They promised to provide further details about funeral arrangements in due time.
