The same way Cookie and Magic now celebrate their 28th year of marriage, the NBA player also celebrates the 28th anniversary of his HIV announcement, something that stunned his fans and supporters back in the day.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson was once one of the best NBA players to ever play in the league and was one of those many looked up to as well.

HIV ANNOUNCEMENT AND NBA RETIREMENT SPEECH

That is why on November 7, 1991, when he announced that he had contracted HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, many were in disbelief that he cheated on his loyal wife Cookie, and contracted a disease because of it.

At the same time, his announcement saw the end of his NBA career. At the time, he was considered the best point guard of the league, a three-time league and Finals MVP, a five-time world champion, and a man who played the finals nine out of 12 times in his seasons in the NBA.

Cookie and Magic Johnson were only married for two months at the time of his announcement. She was pregnant with their son E.J. during the press conference, and she stood right beside him at the podium.
