Julianne Hough & Brooks Laich Reportedly Had Marital Problems for Months Amid News That They're Spending Time Apart

Julianne Hough and her husband of two years Brooks Laich have reportedly hit a rough patch as reports reveal that the duo has had problems in their marriage "for months."

After two years of marriage and more than five years of being together, it seems there is trouble in Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich's marital paradise.

According to multiple sources who spoke to PEOPLE, the couple has hit a rough patch in their union and have had issues for months. As stated by the insider:

"They've been having problems for months. She's very independent and a free spirit, and that's been tough for Brooks and their marriage."

While it seems all hope is getting lost, another source close to the family reveals that the lovebirds are willing to put in the work as "they are not giving up."

While trying to work things out, people close to the couple note that they are not willing to discuss their issues with anyone as they want to figure things out their way.

The reports of a troubling marriage comes shortly after fans spotted something wrong last month after Hough was seen without her wedding ring while co-hosting NBC's "New Year's Eve" with Carson Daly on New Year.

The same thing was repeated in a Christmas Eve video on Instagram. Brooks, however, was seen with his ring in a workout video he posted on January 2.

PopCulture notes that Brooks gave hints about a troubled marriage in a cryptic post on Instagram on January 7. The Ice Hockey player wrote:

"I feel like a lot of my life has been "bound" to certain identities that have come through the sport I spent my life playing."

On New Year’s Eve, I had a friend ask me “what’s your adjective for the new year?” I asked him what he meant, and he said it’s about picking a word that is going to be a guide for you in 2020. His word was “mindful” - he wanted to be more mindful of his time, his friendships, his money, etc. and throughout the year he will remind himself to be “mindful” of all things in his life. I then immediately fell in love with this question. And the word that keeps coming up for me right now is “boundless.” I feel like a lot of my life has been “bound” to certain identities that have come through the sport I spent my life playing. Canadian, male, hockey player, disciplined, competitive, etc... and though I am all of those things, they do not define me, and I am not bound by them. In 2020 I look forward to releasing old identities, and stepping into a new chapter in my life. I find myself wanting to officially say the words “I retire” from professional hockey, instead of vehemently resisting it as I have been for the last 2 years. I feel a new stage of life calling me, and though I don’t exactly know what it is yet, it feels right, and exciting! Lately I’ve been reading a lot, coloring intricate mandalas, listening to instrumental music, dancing, and I’ve even started singing in church. Probably not the stuff you would envision me doing, and I’m right there with you. But I love it, and I’m not going to stop - I’m going to embrace it for what it is at this moment. So in 2020, I am “boundless” and on a new journey. So I ask you, what is your adjective of 2020, and how will you apply it in your life?! I hope it leads you to a new level of happiness and fulfillment! Much love to all of you who read this and embrace your crazy journey, I’m right there with you! 🤟✌️🤣 @torimatthewsphoto 📸

He then went on to say that he was looking forward to being boundless in the new year.

A day after the post, E! News reported that the couple has been spending some time away from each other. The insider said:

"They have been spending time apart but are not ready to share what's going on between them. They don't even really know what to call it."

The "Dancing With The Stars" alum and Brooks got engaged in 2015 after dating for about a year and a half. They walked down the aisle in 2017 in an outdoor ceremony outside of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
