Stylist Comments on Grammys 2020 Male Outfits, Calling the Ceremony ‘Memorable and Even Historical’
The night of the Grammy Awards is one of the most important in the music industry, not only for the awards and performances but also for the incredible display of fashion that the stars put on while walking the red carpet. Here, our fashion expert recalls the best male outfits seen this year.
Whether or not they’re nominated for their work, the stars always dress to impress in the Award season. From the Golden Globes and the Oscars to the Grammys, celebrities know that their time to shine is not always on stage, but on the red carpet.
This year’s Grammy Awards, on its 62nd annual ceremony, took place on Sunday, January 26, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
A string of the hottest music stars, including Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ariana Grande, Lil Nas X, Chrissy Teigen, Shawn Mendes, Tyler the Creator, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and many more, strolled down the red carpet as if it were their personal runaway.
Here, fashion expert Anna Ponomarenko breaks down the best-dressed males of the night exclusively for AmoMama.
According to Anna, this year, the men who walked the red carpet chose mainly three-piece or classic suits, but each of them had distinctive features: color, style, and accessories.
And while most male stars get eclipsed by their fellow female stars, this year there some daring guys who took the fashion up a notch donning something more interesting than just a suit.
“This is an interesting phenomenon because, for many years, men have chosen classic things for the red carpet, and only occasionally, the bravest ones risked trying on new looks. Today, young performers boldly put on silk, new shades, and styles.”
Among her favorite dressed are:
Undoubtedly the fashion icon of the moment, the Broadway veteran and “Pose” star, enjoys making a statement with his bold, out-of-the-box looks.
On this occasion, he rocked a shimmering turquoise jumpsuit with a jacket, but the central piece of his outfit was a wide-brimmed hat with a crystal fringe that opened and closed with remote control.
The always eccentric “Godfather of Punk” knows how to steal the attention wherever he goes. On this occasion, he chose a three-piece gray suit with no shirt underneath and completed the look with a pair of crystal-embellished slides.
The DJ walked the carpet looking like the perfect example of a modern cowboy: the look had classic elements of the western style and, at the same time, maintained a relevant and bold vibe.
Lil Nas X
The “Old Town Road” icon was one of the biggest stars of the night, and he took the chance to shine brightly from the moment he stepped into the red carpet.
Lil Nas X gave a pink neon twist to the modern cowboy theme. His outfit had a mix of gold, mesh, and a Versace harness to add an even more edgy touch to the look. The cowboy boots completed the bold look.
“Someone will say too much, and someone will want to copy one or more elements. Pink finally ceases to bear the large print of ‘girl’s only’ color,” says Anna.
The handsome Canadian heartthrob wore a berry-colored three-piece Louis Vuitton suit with a pair of sleek black boots. Classic and elegant but age-appropriate for the “Señorita” singer.
Men’s dresses and skirts began to appear more and more on world catwalks and finally got on the red carpet. The Comme des Garçons tailored jacket is uniquely beautiful, and Lacy topped the look with a pair of Rick Owens combat boots.
Tyler the Creator
Welcome to the Grand Budapest Hotel, or another example of how a man can rock pink even in a bellhop outfit. The rapper didn’t skimp in details, adding a pink suitcase, white gloves, and the characteristic red cap.
It seems like men are getting bolder and daring at award shows, which is a bit of fresh air from the usually-boring black suits that, while classic, can get repetitive and dull at times.
