On January 23, the “SVU: Law & Order” star turned 56, and many of her colleagues, friends, and fans took to social media to celebrate her big day. However, the sweetest tribute came from her on-screen son, Ryan Buggle.
The 10-year-old took to Twitter to share two photos of himself and Mariska sharing a tight hug. The sweet photo was captioned:
“Another year with you by my side is another year of magic. Happy Birthday to my second mama @Mariska, I love you!”
Fans were touched by the sweet bond the duo share off-screen and liked the tweet about 5,400 times. An excited fan of the show wrote:
“Aww, you guys are adorable! Happy birthday, @Mariska hope you have a good day!”
As noted by Country Living, Ryan plays the role of Noah Porter-Benson, the adopted son of Mariska’s character, Olivia Benson.
Olivia adopted Noah in season 15 of the crime drama series, and the duo has shared a tight bond both on-screen and off-screen for about six seasons.
Soap Hub points out that Olivia and Noah had a rocky on-screen relationship when he was kidnapped by Sheila, who wanted to run away with him.
Also, Olivia faced legal battles when official inquiries came into how she balanced her work life and taking care of Noah.
Nevertheless, the pair has remained strong through it all, making the series worth it.
Luckily, Ryan wasn’t the only one to celebrate the talent that is Mariska as the actress received an influx of well-wishes from stars like Sophia Bush, Ali Wentworth, Viola Davis, and Courteney Cox.
Per Cheatsheet, Mariska also paid tribute to herself as she took to her Instagram to share a heartwarming photo of herself looking ecstatic in front of a tall cake.
Around the cake were pink Eiffel Towers and a large letter M for “Mariska.” The sweet post was captioned, “Birthdays are markers. I’m feeling too incredibly grateful for all the love and birthday wishes,” alongside a series of playful hashtags.
