Kimora Lee Simmon's Daughter Aoki Shared Touching Tribute to Mom on International Women's Day

Aoki, the second daughter of Kimora Lee Simmons, paid tribute to her partnership with her mother on International Women's Day. "My mom and I are a team," she said.

Kimora Lee Simmons’ daughter, Aoki looked no further than her mother when she marked International Women’s Day this year. Aoki used the occasion to thank her phenomenal mom for making her dreams come true.

Aoki, Kimora’s second daughter with ex-husband, Russell Simmons paid tribute to Kimora in a touching post that featured a throwback of the two of them.

CELEBRATING A TEAM

Two pics shared revealed a cake celebrating Aoki’s1st birthday. Mother and daughter posed with the cake which read, “Congrats on Book 1 Aoki Lee.”

The photos were accompanied by a heartfelt message the Harvard student penned for her mother. She greeted the female community a Happy International Women’s Day before launching into a reflection of her mother’s role in her life.

“This photo means so much to me, sometimes people will ask how I got into Harvard at 16 but my answer is always that WE did,” she wrote.

Aoki added that her schoolmates were surprised to learn that she never lied to her mom the way they did to their parents. She explained, “My mom and I are a team.”

Aoki and Ming, who also took after their mother’s flair for modeling now work side by side with Kimora in the reestablishment of Baby Phat. On International Women’s Day last year, Kimora announced the return of the brand which shut down in 2011.

“Thank you mom for making my dreams come true (and not just in the vague “I support you” way, in the concrete nitty gritty hard work every day kind of way),” Aoki continued. “If you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far, go together.”

The loving daughter ended her message by tagging her mother and writing, “I’m so excited to see where the team goes next.”

A TRIPLE THREAT

We have witnessed how doting and Kimora is to all her children especially her girls who practically grew up alongside her rise to success. Today, Aoki and her older sister, Ming, share in that success by working for their mother’s clothing company, Baby Phat.

Aoki and Ming, who also took after their mother’s flair for modeling now work side by side with Kimora in the reestablishment of Baby Phat. On International Women’s Day last year, Kimora announced the return of the brand which shut down in 2011. She also revealed her daughters would be a big part of the brand’s relaunch.

Kimora revealed that though she’s still involved with the day to day activities of the company, she gives her daughters enough freedom to make decisions. Ming’s involvement is with the design process while Aoki’s expertise is used to manage finances.

Aoki said in an interview with Teen Vogue last year that Kimora believes in their capabilities and allows them to figure things out on their own. And when she and Ming don’t agree with something, they sort things out until it “ends up being a blend.”
