Idris Elba's wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba has also tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Just days after actor Idris Elba announced that he had been diagnosed with Coronavirus, his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba has revealed that she too has tested positive for the virus.
Amid a wave of concern and prayers for her recovery from fans, Sabrina explained why she chose to remain at her husband's side during his quarantine.
Elba has appealed to people to unite in the face of the pandemic and to work as a community

STANDING BY HER MAN
On March 16, 2020, Idris Elba posted a clip on Twitter in which he shared the news that he tested had positive for the new Coronavirus.
In the video, alongside her husband and looking understandably worried, was his wife Sabrina. Elba stated:
“I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.”
At that time, Sabrina had not yet been tested, but she had decided, despite her husband's appeals to remain with him in isolation. Elba explained:
“Sabrina wanted to be by my side, you know. As much as we talked about her not coming to where I am she did and wanted to, and I love her even more for it."
SELF ISOLATED IN NEW MEXICO
The couple, who is self-isolated in New Mexico, spoke to Oprah Winfrey about their Coronavirus diagnosis and how they are coping with their quarantine status. Elba said:
"It didn’t really feel relatable. There were a bunch of theories going around. It’s a conspiracy! Is it even real? When I got tested and it came back positive, it became very real.”
SABRINA DHOWRE ELBA CRITICISED
Sabrina confessed to Oprah that even though she had been the target of criticism for risking contamination by remaining with her husband, she has no regrets. She said:
"I could have made the decision to put myself, maybe, in a separate room or stay away (...) But I made the decision to want to be with him and, you know, still touch him."
EXPOSED ON THE SAME DAY
Elba had originally had himself tested after he was informed that he had been in contact with a person who had tested positive for the Coronavirus. Elba revealed:
"If I had caught it, she had certainly caught it in that time period, as well."
THE ELBAS AND COVID 19
As yet, neither of the Elbas have developed any symptoms of the disease, and Sabrina reports only mild allergies as a complaint. Elba is determined to use his situation to spread awareness of the disease, especially among the black community.
Elba pointed out that he is black and has tested positive, refuting the rumors spreading in the community that black people are immune to the Coronavirus - a theory that the actor considers to be extremely dangerous.
Elba has appealed to people to unite in the face of the pandemic and to work as a community, offering help and support to the most vulnerable.

REACTING TO THE VIRUS
Elba expressed the opinion that the virus is a reaction on the part of the natural world to curb the unbridled and damaging expansion of humanity. The expansion of the Coronavirus is forcing people to work together as a species, Elba opined, and forcing society to reevaluate its values, and maybe choose a new direction. Elba said:
“Now’s the time for solidarity. Now’s the time for thinking about each other. There’s so many people whose lives have been affected.”
We wish the Elbas a quick recovery and thank them for their inspiring tranquility in the face of adversity.
