Katy Perry Dresses up as Hand Sanitizer Bottle and Shares Fresh 'American Idol' Update
Ahead of this weekend’s episode of “American Idol,” judge Katy Perry shared a video-promo for the show’s new format. The singer wore a very interesting costume while filming the footage.
“American Idol” recently launched its unique at-home format over the weekend. The last 20 contestants will now be competing from their respective homes.
Perry, 35, and fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan watch each performance remotely from their own living rooms. Most television shows have chosen the at-home format to broadcast episodes amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic.

DRESSING AS A HAND SANITIZER
Perry commemorated the new format by sharing a short video of herself dressed as a giant hand sanitizer. People across the world have been encouraged to sanitize their hands when out in public to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Keeping it both fresh and CLEAN!
The costume Perry wore had the words “American Idol instant music sanitizer” written on it. The pop singer captioned the video writing: “We at #AmericanIdol are keeping it both fresh and CLEAN!”
THE NEW IDOL FORMAT
Before the episode began, the musician hosted a Facebook Live chat. She explained to fans how the “American Idol” producers were making sure every contestant had a fair chance in the singing competition.
Perry shared how each contestant had the same microphone, iPhones, and a ring light. Each person had to create their own performance “set-up."
IT’S UP TO THEIR TALENT NOW
During a press conference call after the show, Perry and her fellow judges shared how the new format would affect the contestants. Perry revealed: “It was up to the talent. They had the option to perform with their own instruments or utilize our music director from afar.”

She also spoke about her hand sanitizer costume stating: "I really put some thought into my outfit." The Teenage Dream singer has been an “American Idol” judge since 2018.
EXPECTING HER FIRST CHILD
She’s expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, 43. The pair have been dating on-and-off since 2016 and Bloom has another child.

The actor is already a parent to son Flynn, 9, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. “American Idol” airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
