The Best, Worst and Most Controversial Looks at 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' NYC Premiere – 25+ Photos
The cast of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" reunited on the NYC red carpet on Monday evening, April 20, and the fashion was as dramatic, daring, and debated as the film itself — scroll down to see every look that had the internet talking.
When the original "The Devil Wears Prada" landed in 2006, it didn't just launch a thousand career crises — it made fashion the star.
So when the long-awaited sequel finally brought Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway back together for their New York City world premiere, the pressure was on.
Fans didn't just want a good movie. They wanted a moment. And the red carpet — steps away from Runway magazine's fictional headquarters — delivered exactly that, for better or worse.
Hollywood's biggest names turned out in full force, and the looks — waiting for you at the end — ranged from breathtaking to bewildering. Here's a breakdown of the most talked-about outfits of the night.
Meryl Streep
Miranda Priestly herself arrived in what can only be described as a fashion statement with the energy of an imperial decree.
Streep wore a sweeping, floor-length red leather cape dress with a dramatic bow neckline, paired with long black leather gloves and sharp black ankle boots — dark sunglasses completing the look. It was theatrical, commanding, and utterly divisive.
"She stole that look from the imperial guards," one viewer quipped. But not everyone was poking fun — another gushed simply, "So elegant."
Emily Blunt
Blunt arrived in a custom Schiaparelli couture gown designed by Daniel Roseberry — a firm, sculptural bodice covered in 25,000 silk feathers, beneath which cascaded a dramatic, ivory scissor-hem tiered tulle skirt. With her hair swept up and her dark red lip on point, she looked every inch the leading lady.
Yet it was her jewellery that truly stole the show. Stylist Jessica Paster worked with Mikimoto to assemble a suite of pieces from their highly coveted Les Pétales Place Vendôme collection, curating what she called "the ultimate Devil Wears Prada fashion moment."
The centrepiece was a £49,600 Rosés Akoya choker: three rows of cultured Akoya pearls beneath 4.86-carat, diamond-encrusted rose gold petals. Blunt said of the piece, "I immediately fell in love with the Mikimoto Les Pétales choker the moment I saw it."
Matching £9,600 stud earrings featured 7.5mm Akoya pearls nestled in diamond petals, while three bracelets — including a £24,400 Triple Akoya Cultured Pearl Bracelet and two additional white gold pearl strands — coated her wrist in a total of 243 pearls.
The dress, however, split opinion sharply. "Emily's dress is a firm 'no' 🙈," declared one commenter, prompting another to concur, "Totally agree. I was like, is she pregnant?" A third didn't hold back either, marvelling, "This dress looks like a giant sparkly wart."
Anne Hathaway
Andy Sachs herself showed up in a show-stopping red strapless ball gown with a sweetheart neckline, a nipped-in structured bodice, and a voluminous pleated skirt — finished with matching red platform heels. It was a love letter to old Hollywood glamour, and the internet was smitten.
"Wow love Ann's dress. They look incredibly Fashionable! Can't wait to see the movie!! 👏👏🙌🙌😍," one fan gushed excitedly. Another agreed wholeheartedly, "Ann Hathaway looks sophisticated and elegant!"
Heidi Klum
The supermodel and TV personality arrived in a halterneck gown in a muted sage green, featuring an abstract textured, leaf-print fabrication that flowed into a dramatic, open-backed silhouette. The colour was universally admired. The fit? Less so.
"Her stylist must really hate her lately," one viewer remarked drily. Another was more measured, conceding, "The color is absolutely gorgeous on her, but the fit is atrocious 🫣."
A third was altogether more blunt, delivering a two-word verdict, "Shower curtain."
Paige DeSorbo
The "Summer House" star turned up in a strapless black satin ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and a voluminous midi skirt — elegant, classic, and instantly compared to her fellow guest.
"Is this the same dress as Anne Hathaway but in black?" one commenter questioned suspiciously. Another was less focused on the dress itself, writing, "I hate it with her hair up. Her head is too small for that look."
Hannah Berner
Berner opted for a sleek, black column gown with an open back and a gold halterneck neckline — a clean, confident look that earned near-universal approval. "This look is 10/10 no notes 👏," one fan declared enthusiastically.
Ciara and Russell Wilson
The power couple made a joint statement — Ciara in a floor-sweeping oversized denim trench coat belted over a white button-up shirt and high-waisted denim shorts, paired with black heels and a glittering crystal choker; Russell in an all-black ensemble with a Prada logo jacket.
The look drew one particularly memorable response: "Pregnant," one commenter wrote.
Simone Ashley
The "Bridgerton" star brought a jolt of colour to the carpet in a strapless, structured lime green satin minidress with a dramatic floor-length train at the back, styled with silver metallic pointed-toe heels. The reaction was divided.
"Breathtaking!!" one admirer swooned. But another was far more conflicted, "Oh my God, am I the only one that doesn't like it? She is too gorgeous to be wearing such heavy fabric like that! Her stylist obviously didn't tell her not to sit down 🪑 she is stunning and I just don't like that dress 😢"
As for the general mood around the evening's fashion? Not everyone was wowed. "Fashion sure has gotten strange," one viewer sighed. Another cut straight to it, "I am underwhelmed. Why is the fashion so boring?"
