Story of the Day: Waitress Gets Angry Because a Kid Could Only Afford Ice Cream

A waitress gets angry with a kid she feels is wasting her time because he only has enough money to get single ice cream — she tears up after she clears his table.

A ten-year-old boy walks into a coffee shop, takes a seat, and signals the waitress. On getting to his table, the waitress simmered with annoyance, thinking about how a child would never have a lot of money to spend.

She regarded him as a waste of her time, and impatiently asked what he would be having as she sets a glass down in front of him.

The boy innocently asks her how much an ice cream sundae was worth, and she replies, telling it would cost him a total of 50 cents.

He seemed to be thinking it over, after which he asks how much a regular one would cost. The waitress impatiently replies, saying, it would cost him 35 cents.

At this point, she was rapidly losing her patience because there was a long queue of people piling up at the entrance, waiting for seats.

The young boy chose to order the regular ice cream, and he flashed the impatient waitress a smile as he returned the menu.

She returned a few minutes later with the ice cream and his bill, which she dropped off without a word. The boy sat there, ate his ice cream, cleared his bill, and took his leave.

The waitress returned to the empty table, sighing with relief when she realized the child didn't take as long as she thought he would.

She started clearing up the table in preparation for the next customer but stopped when she discovered that the boy had left her a 15 cent tip.

She realized the only reason he hadn't been able to purchase the sundae was that he had planned to leave her the rest of his money as a tip.

The waitress was shocked that he would do something so sweet when she had only treated him impatiently and rudely.

She immediately felt guilty for treating him carelessly as she recalled their entire conversation, he passed up his sundae so he could give her a tip! How do you think she'll act if she meets him again?
