Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson & Other Stars Honor Late Gianna Bryant by Wearing Red Bracelets

Vanessa Bryant’s appeal for others to commemorate her late daughter Gianna’s 14th birthday resulted in various celebrities paying sweet tributes “Gigi’s way.”

On May 1, Gianna Bryant would have turned 14. Even though she and her father, basketball legend Kobe Bryant tragically died during a helicopter crash in January, their memory lives on.

To inspire kindness “Gigi’s way,” mom Vanessa asked followers to wear red or the red bracelets she created in support of the family’s Mamba and Mambacita foundation. Gianna adored the color red, which to her represented life and love.

“To commemorate Gigi’s birthday today, please consider wearing red, caption an act of kindness or show how you will play Gigi’s way since she always gave everything she did her all and led with kindness,” Vanessa wrote.

Celebrities didn’t hesitate to show their support. Kelly Clarkson posted a smiling selfie showing off the red bracelet, and she asked her followers to play with “kindness, not just talent,” as Gianna always had.

Together, Alex Rodriques, Jennifer Lopez, and their children posed for a group shot emphasizing the red bracelets and shared that Gianna is “always” in their hearts.

Alongside a picture of two hands together wearing the bracelet, Ciara also wished Gianna a happy birthday and added:

"Today I’m going to do a little dance for you because I know you loved dancing. We love you."

Actor Mario Lopez and his wife Courtney also shared a sweet tribute alongside a picture of them donning their bracelets, as they spent the day honoring love and life.

Kim Kardashian felt that she could do with more than one bracelet, and posted pictures wearing four of them as her show of support after wishing Gianna a happy birthday.

Gianna, or Gigi, as her friends and family affectionately called her, also became known as Mambacita, due to the talent for basketball, she shared with her father, Kobe, which famously had the nickname of Black Mamba.

In tribute to her daughter, Vanessa posted a happy snap of Gigi and emotionally shared in the caption that she misses her daughter’s hugs and smile “so much every day.”

Along with Gianna and her father, Kobe Bryant, seven other people also tragically lost their lives in the helicopter that crashed in Calabasas.

Five people saw the crash as it happened around 9:45 am on Sunday, January 26, and immediately called 911. It had been less than an hour before the helicopter left an airfield in Orange County.

The group of nine people was on their way to a basketball game at Thousand Oaks, and rapidly deteriorating weather conditions played a role in the crash.
