A man who has an older horse with some back and hip issues refused to let his overweight female friend from riding her. Now, she is pissed at him for fat-shaming her.

For many ranchers, their horses are like their family, and they would do anything to protect them, even sometimes at the expense of people's feelings. This was the case of a Reddit user who took to the platform to tell his story. He explained in his lengthy post that he is a proud owner of two horses who are both around their mid-20s.

One, however, is closely approaching 30 and has back and hip issues alongside weighing 1000lbs. While that might seem like a disadvantage, he noted that the horse has managed to remain in good shape and can still ride up steep mountains for a duration of about two hours.

From time to time, he brings his friend over, and they ride his horses together, and while he rides the younger one, he leaves them with the older one. According to him, this is because the younger one is not responsive to strangers like the older one.

On one particular hangout, a friend of his who happens to be over 200lbs and knows nothing about horses requested to ride with him on the older horse, and he refused. Explaining his decision, he said:

"I said no and was honest about why, but still offered for her to come to groom them and spend time with them on the ground."

Unfortunately, his friend didn't take the rejection too well as she resorted to accusing him of fat-shaming her because he is skinny as he weighs just about 115lbs. Despite her ranting, the original poster stood his ground, saying that his horse is not a machine and that he isn't going to hurt the creature just to spare her feelings.

While he thinks he did the right thing, some of his other friends noted that he might have been too harsh as his friend was just asking for a ride. She got angry at him and they haven't spoken ever since.

Now he wants to know if he was a bad friend because of his reaction. Many users supported his decision with one in particular writing:

"There was a nice way of telling her no. It was saying no. There's also a nice way of taking a no. She did not take it with grace and decided to make everything about her."

Others cited their experiences with horses on the ranch and explained that the man's hands were tied, especially since his friend was a novice when it came to horses. What do you think of this story? Was the man in the wrong?
