Michelle Obama stands out among many public figures, and her acclaimed fame was established after becoming the first lady of the United States. Besides being a top scholar and inspiration to many, Michelle Obama's excellence extends to motherhood.

The American lawyer is mom to two lovely girls, Malia and Sasha Obama. Once in an interview, she gave her detailed opinion about motherhood. Obama recalled the moments when her kids were newborns. She and her spouse, Barack Obama, were in awe and could sometimes lose sleep while admiring the girls.

"...We loved to listen to the little sounds they'd make – especially the way they cooed when they were deep into dreaming."

The Harvard alumnus described childbirth as "magical." She said: "...Time expands and contracts; each moment holds its own little eternity…" Even though she enjoyed shielding her kids and guiding their steps, this celebrity mom believes that children should be allowed to make their own choices.

OBAMA'S MOTHERHOOD LESSONS

The "Becoming" author shared some revealing moments about motherhood with the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. Obama made it known that a mother's instinct has to do with being protective and not wanting "anything or anyone to hurt our babies."

She still keeps up with them, making sure they don't forget to stay healthy.

However, she learned that motherhood was about giving children "space" to explore and make decisions for themselves sometimes. Obama added that children should be allowed to make their own mistakes. What a mom should rather be is " a safe and consistent place for them to land when they inevitably fail…"

These days Malia and Sasha Obama are away at college. While Malia attends Harvard University, Sasha is a freshman at the University of Michigan.

During a chat with Oprah Winfrey, the former first lady made it known that all she does is check on her grown daughters through the phone and advise them.

Michelle hilariously chipped in that she was sure her daughters were tired of her numerous pieces of advice. However, she told them that they have to be their own persons and not get influenced by external factors.

The famous mom admitted that it wasn't easy raising a family. Although she doesn't have to follow the girls around anymore, she still keeps up with them, making sure they don't forget to stay healthy.
