The couple were married in 2008 and had two children together. Carol grew up in the state and even attended the University of Kentucky.
After the announcement, the Fayette County coroner had been called to the families home with media being asked to leave the area.
The congressman would release a statement at a later date and asked for privacy for the family.
While the family has not yet released any statement, Mary Rosado, Barr's chief of staff, released a statement on behalf of the Barrs.
Rosado shared that the Congressman would release a statement at a later day and asked for privacy for the family so that the family could grieve. She said,
"Congressman Bar may release a more detailed statement at a later date, but right now is solely focused on being a father to his two beautiful daughters."
Other condolences included Mike Harmon who extended his sympathy to the Barr and Leavell family at the death of Barr's "beautiful wife and a wonderful mother."
He also shared the bible verse from Proverbs, which said "He who finds a wife finds a good thing. And obtains favour from the Lord.'"
Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles also paid tribute to Carol, sharing that he had known her his entire life and remembered her as someone who always had a smile on her face.
Quarles spoke of Carol as being a valued member of their community and asked citizens of Kentucky to join him in praying for the family.
