Hollywood star Harrison Ford recently turned 78. Over the years, he has acted in various onscreen productions, here are quick facts about the iconic actor's career and personal life.

Ford is an American actor who stepped into the spotlight in 1981 after he featured as "Indiana Jones" in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Before then, he had acted in "Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope."

He was born in 1942, in Chicago, to parents who were conversant with the entertainment industry. His dad, Christopher Ford, who was of Irish and German descent, was an actor who later found his way in the advertising industry. His mom, Dorothy Ford, was a radio actress.

As a student, the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" star was never a distinguishable one. His grades were mostly Cs. Ford's education was first from Maine Township High School East in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Then he moved to Ripon College, Wisconsin, where he dropped out and started to pursue a career in Hollywood by joining Columbia Productions and later, Universal.

He has never won an award but has been recognized for his incredible interpretation of roles by receiving award nominations over the years.

He revealed during an interview that his healthy food routine is responsible for it all.

He bagged Golden Globe award nominations for his role in 1985's "Witness," where he played "John Book," and later in "The Fugitive," a 1993 film.

The 78-year-old has also achieved success in the aviation industry. He is not only a certified private pilot of winged airplanes and helicopters, but he has contributed his quota to his community over the years by providing helicopter services in emergencies.

While he is a skillful pilot, he has been a victim of engine failure, which left him with a pelvic and ankle injury. The actor has five children.

His eldest child, Ben Ford, found his calling in the food business and, with the support of his father, has established himself as a successful restaurateur in L.A.

At 78, Ford still manages to look good. He revealed, during an interview, that his healthy food routine is responsible for it all. The actor has not been involved in scandalous news over the years and has shown dedication and passion for the things he loves. Cheers to a new age!
