After almost four decades of making a mark as Hope Williams Brady, Kristian Alfonso bid farewell to the "Days of Our Lives." The actress discussed her shocking exit in an interview with Soap Opera Digest for the magazine's August cover story.

As reported by People Magazine, after it was revealed that the NBC soap opera would start production for season 56, the 56-year-old announced her exit.
The beloved star first announced her departure from “Days Of Our Lives” on July 6, 2020, via a statement posted on her Instagram page. She described the long-running show as a "vital part of both my personal and professional journey."
During the interview with Soap Opera Digest, Kristina explained that prior to her announcement, she had a discussion with executive producer Ken Corday about an exciting change in the storyline that would keep her character away for about 4-5 months.
That was when she decided to leave the show. Explaining the rationale behind her decision, Alfonso, who first appeared on the series in 1983, said:
"I’ve been there for an incredibly long time and am hugely grateful that I was able to be a part of the Days of Our Lives family for as long as I was. But in the last few years, Days of Our Lives is not the Days of Our Lives as I know it."
She confessed that she thought about leaving the show four years ago when her father passed, but stayed on after being convinced by the producer. However, this time, she thought things over and decided to follow her guts.
The mother-of-two who said she "felt a sense of relief" at her exit confirmed that she had already filmed what will now be her last episode, and will not be returning to the show in the future.

As recalled by US Weekly, the actress joined the show in season 19 and took a break in 1987 and 1990. The Massachusetts native, however, returned to the show in 1994 after a storyline deceived fans into thinking she was dead.
Kristian's character was famous for her romance with "Bo Brady" which was played by Peter Reckell. According to reports, "Days Of Our Lives" production has been halted in March due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
However, Kristian Alfonso's final episodes were shot before the halt happened. The drama series is set to resume filming in the fall after being renewed for season 56 in January.
