People: Here's an Update on Simon Cowell's Condition after Undergoing Back Surgery after His Accident
Simon Cowell underwent overnight surgery when an electric bike accident left him with a broken back, and he is reportedly in "good spirits" while recovering at home.
Mastering the nuances of an electric bike at his Malibu home on Saturday evening literally turned into a back-breaking effort for the 60-year-old executive producer Simon Cowell.
As soon as Cowell landed on his back, he knew something major went wrong, and a five-hour surgery followed to repair the damage. Surgeons inserted a metal rod with a number of fusions in his back, and Cowell is already back at work as much as he is able while recovering.

HE IS ALREADY MOVING ABOUT
Although Cowell's fingers are currently doing most of the walking through his emails and on his iPad, the "AGT" judge is already on his feet, as a source told PEOPLE:
“He’s on his feet and walking around again as much as he can. He’s taking it easy but doing well.”
WORK AS USUAL
While Cowell hardly skipped a workload beat, he won't be attending this week's two "America's Got Talent" live shows as production on their 15th season resumes.
The novel coronavirus pandemic halted production just before the quarterfinal rounds, which will play out into the final set to take place on September 23.
NOT READY TO RETURN JUST YET
Because its hard to put a timeframe on Cowell's recovery, his return for the filming of the popular talent show is yet to be determined. Until then, Kelly Clarkson will fill in for Cowell, who is elated that she could help out on such short notice, as the source added:
“Simon’s really happy Kelly is standing in for him on AGT this week and grateful to her.”
HE LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT LOSS
Cowell had been making an effort to spend as much quality time with his 6-year-old son Eric as he possibly can, and it even inspired the talent judge to drop around 20 pounds last year.
At the age of 60, Cowell said that it takes work to try and keep up with his young son he shares with girlfriend Lauren Silverman. While his change in diet was meant to give him more energy, the health kick inevitably also slimmed him down.
WELL-WISHES
Cowell's close friend and fellow judge on "Britain's Got Talent," Amanda Holden also recently shared an update on the executive producer's recovery.
Sharing that Cowell is "doing really well," Holden also wished him a "speedy recovery" while she sent love from her family to his.
