Jeffree Star’s rise to fame began with a rough childhood filled with pain and tragedies. Losing his father at the young age of five to suicide contributed to the icon’s controversial early years.

YouTube personality, Jeffree Star achieved fame from scratch, building a successful makeup empire over the years. His dramatic ascent to stardom, however, did not come without its struggles.

His life’s travails began in childhood through his defining teenage years and eventually leading to the spotlights. Despite his recent encounters, his battle through life as a child remains the most challenging.

JEFFREE STAR’S EARLY CHILDHOOD

Jeffrey Lynn Steininger Jr. professionally tagged Jeffree Star, landed the planet on November 15, 1985, in Los Angeles, California. He began his life with his dad, Jeffrey Lynn Steininger, and mother, Marra Shubyan, in Orange County, where he built some of his earliest memories.

The duo represented the ultimate same-sex relationship goals until their break up in January 2020.

When the internet personality was barely six years old, his father, Jeffery, took his own life, leaving behind his wife and kid.

Following his dad’s suicide, Jeffree Star grew up with his mother, who was a model. They eventually moved in with his grandparents in Huntington Beach, California. Being raised by a single mother did little to abate his burdened heart and anger at life.

Over time, his relationship with his mom became strained and curt, which notably extended to his adulthood. Soon, makeup became the star’s only source of freedom and happiness.

The icon admitted trying on his mother’s makeup as a child and subsequently bracing himself to wear them to school in junior high. That period marked the start of his burgeoning cosmetic career.

JEFFREE STAR’S RISE TO FAME AND SUCCESS

Admittedly, Star grew into the world of makeup as a self-taught artist. He brushed his skills by joining the website, FaceTheJury.com, where users could share their takes on other people’s looks post-makeup.

He also introduced himself as a makeup artist when he joined MySpace in 2003, and by 2006, became the most-followed person on the platform.

Following his high school graduation, Jeffree Star began freelancing as a makeup artist to support himself. During this time, he met entertainment icon, Kelly Osbourne, who gave him an opportunity to do her makeup.

In addition to his makeup deals, he also pursued small music gigs to make extra cash. By 2009, he released his first and only album, “Beauty Killer.” Notably, the album included his Nicki Minaj-featured song, “Lollipop Luxury.”

Akon’s label, Konvict Muzik, signed the icon in 2010, billing him as the next Lady Gaga. However, the contract dissolved three years later, with Star releasing no albums. Ultimately, he quit music and pursued his makeup dreams.

LAUNCHING HIS COSMETIC BRAND

In 2013, Star decided to put his makeup prowess to more practical use. With the help of celebrity tattoo artist, Kat Von D, owner of the Sephora makeup line, Jeffree was able to establish Jeffree Star Cosmetics.

The cosmetics line kicked off in the fall of 2014, with his first set of products on the e-commerce website selling out instantly. Although Jeffree Star’s life before fame was tumultuous, he managed to make his cosmetics empire work, becoming one of the best-selling brands in no time.

UNDERGOING PLASTIC SURGERY

Owning a cosmetic brand meant representing beauty for the 34-year-old makeup mogul. To fit into his beauty expectations, Star underwent a series of surgeries.

He went through a gender surgery, had another surgery to reconstruct his lips, and a follow-up procedure to lower his hairline. Jeffree Star, before his surgery, had a receding hairline, a masculine face, and lips he considered too thin.

All that changed after his procedures, leaving him with the flawlessly feminine looks the world has come to know. Additionally, having inherited terrible dentition from his mom, the icon replaced his entire teeth-set with zirconia crystals.

JEFFREE STAR’S INTERNET ADVENTURES

In 2015, the icon began posting makeup tutorials on YouTube. His YouTube channel soon became one of the most-visited pages, garnering over 400 million views in less than two years. Star eventually became one of the highest-paid YouTubers of all time.

While gaining him internet popularity, his blunt criticisms also put him in the middle of several internet feuds. His altercation with beauty mogul, Kylie Jenner, over her frayed applicator wands in April 2016, remains one of the most notable.

Another drama broke out in 2017 when openly racist videos from his teenage days on MySpace resurfaced on the internet. Although the beauty mogul has since apologized for his past “embarrassing” behaviors, the internet never forgets.

Since then, the entertainment icon has not been linked with other partners. Following his split from Schwandt, the star admitted he was dedicating 2020 to focusing on himself.
