Ed Sheeran announced the birth of his first child and daughter with wife Cherry Seaborn via a heartwarming photo on Instagram. The singer also shared his daughter’s sweet name.

Singer Ed Sheeran is now a proud father-of-one! The “Perfect” crooner announced in the early hours of today that he and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed a baby girl via an Instagram post.

Sheeran shared a touching photo of what looked like a baby cot adorned with a multicolored knitted blanket and a pair of cute black socks.

In the caption, the English music star explained that he has some personal news to share with his 31.3 million followers, writing, “Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.”

He went on to gush about what parenthood meant to him and Seaborn, saying they were “completely in love” with their bundle of joy before assuring fans that both mother and child are in excellent condition.

The 29-year-old concluded the post by asking for privacy from his fans and the media and promised to return soon. Since he took a break in December 2019, this was Sheeran’s first post on social media this year.

The British singer is notoriously known for keeping details of his personal life secret, as seen in his marriage to Seaborn. Their nuptials were kept under the wraps until Sheeran finally confirmed it in July 2019 during an interview with Charlamagne Tha God.

However, speculations were rife that the pair had walked down the aisle since December 2018. It was the same modus operandi that Sheeran used for the birth of his daughter. Seaborn’s pregnancy was kept secret for a while until a source confirmed it to US Weekly in August.

The insider explained that only family members knew about the due date, but the couple planned to tell the world after their daughter was born. Speaking about his desire to be a dad, the source said:

“Ed will make a great dad. He loves kids, and he built his big home in Suffolk, England, with the plan to start a family.”

Sheeran and his wife, a financial advisor, have known each other since they were teenagers but didn’t start dating until 2015. He recalled that they reconnected during a visit to New York and kicked things off.

In March 2017, he confessed that his hit song, “Perfect,” was inspired by a trip he took to Ibiza with Seaborn, where they listened “March Madness” by Future barefoot on a lawn.

By January 2018, Sheeran announced that they were engaged via a post on Instagram. Throughout that year marriage speculations were fueled, but their union wasn’t confirmed until 2019
