Here's How Morgan Freeman Celebrated 26 Years since the Premiere of 'Shawshank Redemption'

In celebration of the 26th anniversary of the hit movie, "The Shawshank Redemption," Morgan Freeman took to his Instagram to thank fans who made the film a success and shared his favorite quote from the film.


26 years after the release of "The Shawshank Redemption," legendary actor Morgan Freeman thanked fans for receiving the movie with open arms, making it one of the most loved films of all time despite the little box office success it had.

Freeman shared a picture from a scene in the movie as he celebrated the anniversary. The film was released on September 23, 1994, in the United States and ranked as the highest-rated IMDb film of all time.

Freeman played the role of "Red," a contraband smuggler who befriends a prisoner, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who was wrongly convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover.

Although "The Shawshank Redemption" received many award nominations, it did not win any. Taking to his Instagram, the 83-year-old veteran requested his followers to share their favorite quotes from the movie while he shared his. Freeman wrote alongside the post:

"[...]I'm still thankful to everyone who made our box office flop one of the most beloved movies of all time."


Fans of the legendary actor wasted no time in indulging in Freeman's request. Over five thousand fans flooded the comment section with their quotes from the movie. One fan picked "get busy living or get busy dying" as his favorite quote, while another said that "hope is a dangerous thing" was what caught his fancy in the movie.

While many people believe that the movie was not given the recognition it deserved, that has not stopped the film from attaining a legendary status amongst lovers of the film.

The aftermath of  "The Shawshank Redemption" saw Freeman get multiple Oscar nominations and feature in high profile movies.


According to reports, "The Shawshank Redemption" was re-released in theaters last year as the film completed 25 years. Fans were thrilled to relive the experience of their favorite movie.

In celebration of the movie's 26th anniversary, fans have been itching to find out the recent activities of the stars featured in the film directed by Frank Darabont.


Tim Robbins, a significant character in the movie, was reported to have received both an Oscar and Golden Globe for his role as Dave Boyle in Mystic River in 2003.

The aftermath of  "The Shawshank Redemption" saw Freeman get multiple Oscar nominations and features in high-profile movies such as  "Angel Has Fallen." "The Shawshank Redemption" was based on Stephen King's 1982 novella, "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption."

King is widely known for having most of his works adapted for the screen. According to reports, the writer is responsible for writing the screenplay for "Sleepwalkers."

Freeman is one of Hollywood's most successful actors whose movies cut across various cultural themes, and this week will undoubtedly remind of how much of an impactful career he has had.
