'Law & Order: SVU' Star Chris Meloni Returns — See 1st Photos He Shared from Set of New Season

"Law & Order: SVU" star Chris Meloni shared his first photos from the set for the new season of the show, one photo showed the tattoo from his character, Elliot Stabler.

Chris Meloni returns to "Law & Order: SVU" and shares his first photos from the set of the new season, he will be reprising his role as the character, Elliot Stabler.

Earlier this month, his former co-star, Mariska Hargitay, posted to Instagram a virtual table read for the show that teased at Meloni's and her own return to the show.

The show''s frontrunner, Warren Leight shared a similar image to his Twitter account, simply adding that the table read had gone well, well confirming that the virtual reunion was preparation for Meloni's long-awaited return.

Meloni shared two photos from the set on Tuesday, December 8th. The one photo was of Stabler's arm tattoo and the second was with his daughter, Sophia, the caption read that he gets to work with her,

The show has plans for a spin-off "Law & Order: Organized Crime", Meloni's appearance in season 22 of SVU will act as a lead in to the new spin-off show, which is lively to debut in 2021.

However, production of the new show had been delayed due to the complications surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and so the reunion of Benson and Stabler had been postponed for a while.

Meloni had appeared on "The Talk" where he confirmed Hargitay's character Benson and his character Stabler's return to the show, however, he does not know how much her character will be on the show and that it is up to the writers.

He went on to further explain, that the character has of course changed because society has dramatically changed since his last appearance on the show,

"I think, in real terms, society, and what we are dealing with in society, has changed dramatically. So, I think you have to address that. "

Hargitay and Meloni were on the first 12 seasons of the show together from 1999 to 2011. Meloni's reprise will mean his first time playing his beloved character in 9 years.

In the "Law & Order" world his character, Stabler, had retired from police business. However, in the real world, it was contractual disputes that intervened.

During last month's table read Meloni was reunited with the show's Hargitay, Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Ice-T, and Jamie Gray Hyder as well as with the "SVU" creative team.

The spin-off, "Law & Order: Organized Crime" will see Stabler's return to law enforcement. Stabler will have to amend his old ways as he runs an elite new task force to take on the city's powerful criminal syndicates.
