Reese Witherspoon Celebrates 'Big Little Lies' Co-star Laura Dern's Birthday with Sweet Tribute

Reese Witherspoon celebrated her best friend's, Laura Dern, birthday with a sweet tribute on social media.

Reese Witherspoon shared a sweet tribute on Twitter for her close friend and “bonus sister,” Laura Dern, to celebrate her birthday.

The two actresses starred together in the 2017 HBO hit "Big Little Lies." Witherspoon played Madeline Mackenzie, and Dern played Renata Klein. The TV series is based on the book by Liane Moriarty.

Witherspoon took to Twitter to wish her “BLL” co-star for her birthday. She shared a black and white photo of Dern holding an Oscar award, with a cake in front of her and a selfie of the two women.

Witherspoon called Dern her comedic inspiration, a bonus sister, and empathy guide in her sweet message while wishing her a Happy Birthday. The birthday message read:

“Time to celebrate this queen @LauraDern! Happy Birthday to my bonus sister / my comedy inspiration / my empathy guide for the universe / my partner in all big schemes.”

Although Witherspoon referred to Dern as her sister, the friends once played mother and daughter in the movie “Wild,” despite their age gap being less than 10 years.

The movie earned both actress nominations for an Academy Award. It was directed by Jean-Marc Vallee who directed “Dallas Buyers Club,” which won an impressive amount of awards during the award season in 2014.

The two have been having fun together virtually by reenacting scenes from their favorite TV shows.

The women are not only costars but close friends in real life. In November 2020, both actresses shared photos of themselves on a socially distanced hike.

Witherspoon shared her selfies on Twitter and captioned it “friendship with social distancing." Dern shared the two selfies on her Instagram, and the caption read:

“So blessed to have friends to distantly walk through this with. And nature!”

The friends are definitely close, as Dern shared that her co-star has been a part of her daily routine while in quarantine. Besides hikes, the women have been hanging out virtually.

She shared with Pure Wow that the two have been having fun together virtually by reenacting scenes from their favorite TV shows from when they were younger. Although she did not disclose what those shows were.

Witherspoon and Dern were in the two seasons of “Big Little Lies” and acted alongside Meryl Streep, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Alexander Skarsgard.

They are both are Oscar winners. Dern won an Academy Award for her role as the divorce lawyer, Nora Fanshaw in “Marriage Story,” while Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role as June Carter in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk The Line.”
