Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell decided on their daughter's moniker to honor the conservationist's late father: "My dad would have been the best grandfather."

Bindi Irwin started a new chapter in her life in 2020 as she tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend, Chandler Powell, amid the pandemic.

This year, the couple will embark on another journey as they enter parenthood with their daughter's coming, whose nickname is inspired by Irwin's late father, Steve.

WELCOMING THEIR LITTLE ONE

The proud parents-to-be are a few weeks away from welcoming their "Baby Wildlife Warrior," and although Steve will not be around, the pair found a way to honor him. In an interview with The Bump, Bindi shared:

"My dad was the first person to create the term 'Wildlife Warrior' [...] I know in my heart she will forge her own path to make our planet a better place."

The Australian native admitted that she plans to live in their resort-like zoo in hopes her child will grow close to animals that surround her -- the same way Bindi did in her younger years.

BEING A "WILDLIFE WARRIOR"

It is no secret that Steve dedicated his life to taking care of wildlife animals and imparting knowledge about them to people across the world, apart from his family, of course.

During his 14th death anniversary in 2020, Bindi honored her father with a sweet throwback photo.

When he coined the term "Wildlife Warrior," he referred to it as someone who uses their voice and power to speak on behalf of those who cannot stand up for themselves.

BINDI'S MATERNITY PHOTO

The unborn child's nickname is not the first time the young conservationist paid tribute to her father in recent months. Previously, she and Powell recreated her parents' maternity photo online.

At that time, Steve and his wife, Terri, were expecting their second and youngest son, Robert. Just as Steve and young-Bindi kissed Terri's exposed belly in the old snap, Chandler planted a kiss on his wife's growing belly.

Bindi's mom excitedly announced the good news on Twitter and added: "While I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud."

REMEMBERING STEVE

After a tragic accident involving a stingray, Steve, famously known as the Crocodile Hunter, passed away on September 4, 2006.

During his 14th death anniversary in 2020, Bindi honored her father with a sweet throwback photo of them playing by the beach, accompanied by a short yet sweet caption.

Bindi was eight years old when her dad passed but has many memories with him to treasure for a lifetime. She, her mom, and her brother are now keeping Steve's legacy alive through their work at Australia Zoo.
