Actress Kym Whitley & Singer Gerald Levert Once Had a Marriage Pact — inside Their past Romance
"The Parkers" star and comedian Kym Whitley revealed that she had an agreement with late R&B singer Gerard Levert that could have changed their lives today.
Who would have thought that Kym Whitley, a celebrated comedian and actress, was linked to the late R&B crooner Gerald Levert? Apart from that, they also shared a pact.
The 59-year-old actress revealed her side of the story and the truth to fellow actress and co-host Sherri Shepherd in the "Two Funny Mamas" Valentine's Day episode on February 15.
SHE LOVES LEVERT
During the interview, Shepherd asked Whitley about whether Levert has a special place in her heart. Whitley said that she will always love Levert.
Levert was at the top of his career in the music industry when he passed away in his Cleveland home in November 2006 due to an accidental drug overdose. He was 40.
If Whitley could have it her way, the doting mother to one wished that she could have handled it differently back then and changed many moments with Levert. The two grew up together in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
A PACT BETWEEN FRIENDS
"We said when we turn 50 years old…if we're not married at 50, we will marry each other."
Levert also shared his plans to Whitley that if they hosted the BET Awards together, they would announce that they were engaged. Unfortunately, all of their plans didn't prosper.
Besides Levert's death, the "Young & Hungry" alum also spoke of their longtime friendship that never transformed into something romantic. Whitley noted that Levert was an established singer while she was a budding actress.
After Whitley's rejection, Levert ended up having three different children from three other women.
STILL FRIENDS AFTER REJECTION
Whitley added that Levert told her he needed to have a wife. But the actress didn't like what he thought as she didn't understand the concept of marriage because she was still young.
The acclaimed actress recalled that Levert felt hurt when she rejected his idea. Whitley remained friends with the late singer and even supported him with all his relationships.
After Whitley's rejection, Levert ended up having three different children from three other women. He regretted his actions involving women, according to Whitley.
Several years after his death, Whitley noted that Levert was the one who got away. Regardless of what had happened between them, the actress treasured only positive memories about the singer.
