Melissa Gilbert Shares Ultrasound of Her Granddaughter Expected in June

“Little House on the Prairie” star Sara Gilbert is very excited about the upcoming arrival of her granddaughter, and she cannot wait for the little girl to take over the world and fulfill her dreams.

56-year-old actress Melissa Gilbert is the loving mother of two grown children, her sons Dakota Brinkman (31, with first husband Bo Brinkman), and Michael Boxleitner (25, with second husband Bruce Boxleitner).

And now, Gilbert is ready to welcome the latest addition to her expanding family, and she cannot wait to meet her not-yet-born granddaughter, with her son Dakota and his wife Marissa announcing they are expecting a child in December.

On March 6, 2021, Gilbert took to her Instagram account to share a picture of the ultrasound recently undergone by Marissa, which gives us a glimpse of the face of Gilbert’s future granddaughter, of whom Gilbert only expects the best, writing:

“My granddaughter. Future president of whatever she wants to be!!”

According to the hashtags that Gilbert added to the post’s caption, Dakota and Marissa’s daughter is expected to be born in June 2021, so the doting grandmother-to-be will have to wait for another couple of months to hold her.

Gilbert’s post received more than 15,000 likes from her fans and followers as a token of their appreciation for the veteran actress, with several users also taking to the comments section to congratulate her for her upcoming granddaughter.

MARRYING A THIRD TIME

In 2013, two years after her second divorce (from Bruce, her husband of 16 years), Gilbert gave marriage another try when she married actor and director Timothy Busfield.

Even though Gilbert and Busfield haven’t conceived any children together, Gilbert has assumed her role of stepmother to Busfield children from previous relationships, daughter Daisy and sons Samuel and Wilson.

Gilbert is also stepmother to Bruce’s two children with his first wife Kathryn Holcomb, Sam and Lee, and while she is not Bruce’s wife anymore, she remains closer to his grown children and plays an important role in their lives.

In February 2019, Gilbert spent a fun day at the beach with stepson Sam and his daughter Lulabelle, shared with his wife Andrea, and the actress Gilbert celebrated the meeting with an Instagram post that she captioned “Three generations.”

HER WORK AND LEGACY

Even though to this day her portrayal of a teenage Laura Ingalls in the TV series “Little House on the Prairie remains her most significant role, Gilbert went on to lead a steady and productive career as an actress after the show ended.

On the big screen, Gilbert appeared in “The Miracle Worker,” “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and “Splendor in the Grass,” while still a teenager. Between 2001 and 2005, she served as president of the Screens Actors Guild.

In 2011, following a four-year hiatus, Gilbert returned to the screens with the TV movie “The Christmas Pageant,” after which she took a break for another four years returning in 2015 with the series “Secrets and Lies.”
