Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin Reportedly Break Up, Igniting Online Buzz – Details
Dakota Johnson and Coldplay's Chris Martin have reportedly ended their nearly eight-year relationship, and this time, sources say the split feels final.
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have broken up, People reports in a new exclusive. The actress and the Coldplay frontman began dating in 2017 and have been in an on-again, off-again relationship since.

Their breakup comes after several years of public speculation regarding the status of their relationship, including low-key engagement rumors and denials of previous split reports. This time, however, sources close to the couple believe it's over for good. "It feels final this time," a source told the publication.
Now that signs of a breakup have emerged yet again, fans couldn't help but share their thoughts on social media. "Heartbroken doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling. They were one of my absolute favorites," one fan wrote. "Was he ever going to propose? Maybe she wants a family," another wondered.

"NO! I loved these two together this is so sad 😢" a third netizen said. "Sorry to hear this, thought they made nice couple, [sic]" added another fan.
One particular netizen was relieved that Johnson was no longer in a relationship. "Finally Dakota will be free. She deserves more and better, not all this," they wrote.
Meanwhile, others wondered whether a third party was involved in the breakup, particularly one of Johnson's co-stars, Pedro Pascal. "This is what happens when you do a movie with Pedro Pascal," one netizen said.
"It's got to be Pedro!! Can't blame her tho ❤️, [sic]" another echoed. "Okay now date Pedroooo, [sic]" commented a fan. "I mean… hopefully she is now dating Pedro Pascal. Because same. 😂😍❤️🔥 [sic]" said another.
Johnson is set to star in the upcoming film "Materialists" alongside Pascal and Chris Evans. Director Celine Song recently praised the electric chemistry among Johnson, Pascal, and Evans, describing it as both natural and intentional.
"They're just so into each other," Song said in an interview. "We were trying to be specific about the chemistry between them as characters too—because it has a different meaning and a different goal for each scene."
Their off-screen friendship appears just as close. During a guest appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Johnson revealed that Pascal often borrows her wardrobe. "He does that a lot. He takes my clothes," she shared with a laugh.
Just as Johnson has been busy professionally, Martin also has his hands full. He is currently on tour with his band, Coldplay. Earlier in the year, in January, they were seen holding hands in India, where Coldplay was performing. The public outing was a hopeful sign after rumors of trouble in 2024.
In August 2024, rumors of a split began circulating, though Johnson's representatives dismissed them at the time. However, just a few months prior, in March 2024, People reported that Johnson and Martin had been engaged "for years." The couple first sparked engagement rumors in 2020 but chose not to publicly confirm them.
Ultimately, the pair were last seen together on May 16, 2025, in Malibu before rumors emerged of their breakup.
Amid recent breakup rumors, Johnson was spotted in New York looking effortlessly stylish. The "Fifty Shades of Grey" actress wore a chic brown skirt and a textured cream top, partially hiding her face beneath an oversized knit hat. She carried a large Gucci tote bag as she exited the Greenwich Hotel and boarded a waiting car.
