Hugh and Crystal Hefner were not a usual couple, especially because he was 60 years older than her. Still, they tied the knot and stayed together until death did them part.

Crystal Harris was born in Arizona in 1986 to English parents who moved to West Bromwich, UK, shortly after her birth. When she was five years old, her parents took her back to America, settling down in California.

Eventually, Crystal started studying psychology at San Diego State University. During this time, she began modeling. Then, in 2008, she went to a Halloween party at the Playboy mansion and met Hugh Hefner.

The founder of Playboy and the young model began a romantic relationship one year later even though he was 60 years her senior. They got engaged in December 2010 and had planned to get married on June 19, 2011.

However, Crystal broke off the engagement only five days before the ceremony. Hugh famously made the announcement on Twitter saying that Crystal had “a change of heart.”

Crystal pointed out, though, that she did it because it was not the right thing for her to do. She added that it was a mutual decision as there was no fight, just two adults talking.

“I will feel eternally grateful to have been by his side, holding his hand, and telling him how much I love him. He changed my life. He saved my life.”

Some people believed that Crystal Harris Hefner would not receive any inheritance from the Playboy founder as they had an “ironclad” prenuptial agreement. Most of his money indeed went to his children, charities, and the University of Southern California film school.

However, it’s been reported that Hugh left Crystal a house in the Hollywood Hills and $5 million, which were supposedly part of their prenuptial agreement.

About a year after Hugh’s passing, Crystal said that he opened her mind and world to many opportunities and experiences that she would have never had if it wasn’t for him.

However, things were not easy for her as she started dealing with a mysterious illness before Hugh’s passing. For years, she suffered everything from intolerance to food and back pain to cognitive dysfunction and fatigue.

Initially, doctors diagnosed her with Lyme disease and toxic mold poisoning. Eventually, she discovered that everything was caused by her breast implants, actually.

In 2016, Crystal Hefner underwent surgery to get the implants removed and got better. She’s about to turn 35 now and has amassed a large social media following.
