Kerry Katona has broken her social media silence with an emotional video revealing her mum Sue's terrifying health crisis — and the traumatic moment that left the star needing therapy.

Something stopped Kerry Katona from posting on social media last week — and when she finally broke her silence, it was clear why.

The former Atomic Kitten star, 45, returned to Instagram on Monday, 27 April, with a raw and emotional video update for her followers, revealing she had just spent her first night back in her own bed after one of the most harrowing weeks of her life.

Kerry began by acknowledging her absence online, telling fans she had an update. What followed was a deeply personal account of a family crisis that left her questioning everything.

Kerry's mum, Sue Katona, was taken to hospital on Tuesday, 21 April. The following day, she was called back urgently — Sue had slipped into unconsciousness.

"It was horrific," Kerry said.

What came next pushed her to her absolute limit. Doctors asked Kerry to sign a "Do Not Resuscitate" order for her mother. Sue remained unconscious for around 24 hours before eventually coming round — but the relief was short-lived.

"That wasn't my mum," Kerry said, describing the moments after Sue regained consciousness. Something was deeply wrong, and watching it unfold was almost more than she could bear.

"It was very traumatic," she admitted. "I'm not going to lie. I think I need therapy, because I sat there watching and she was like, on a loop. It was very difficult to watch."

Kerry had been at the hospital from Wednesday through to Sunday — five days by her mother's bedside, watching, waiting, and fearing the worst.

"I actually feel traumatised," she said. "I thought, 'That's it, my mum's gone. Her mind's gone, she's gone.'"

She described watching Sue in that state as utterly devastating. "I was sat there watching her and she was on a loop. She wouldn't stop. It was very difficult to watch."

The toll it took on Kerry was immense. She confessed to missing her own medical check-ups and blood tests during the ordeal, unwilling to leave Sue's side even for a moment.

When she finally made it home on Sunday night, she was running on empty. "It takes a toll on you," she reflected. "It breaks your heart. It was very, very hard to watch."

But there was good news to share alongside the heartbreak. "Fortunately, my mum's back," Kerry told her followers. "And she's doing well."

The cause of Sue's illness remains unknown, with doctors still working to identify what triggered the episode. Kerry said she believes her mother will remain in hospital for some time yet — but the worst, it seems, has passed.

Still, the experience has left its mark. "It was horrendous," Kerry said more than once throughout the video. "And I never want to go through that again. Ever."

She added that the ordeal had made her reflect on her own mortality. "I feel like I've aged 50 years," she said — though she managed to keep her characteristic humour intact even in the darkest of moments.

Kerry also took a moment to address her followers directly about something they may have noticed in the video — her speech sounded somewhat slurred. She was quick to reassure fans she was not drunk, acknowledging she knew how it might come across.

The comment carried extra weight given that Kerry had her own frightening health scare just weeks earlier. She had been in London watching her eldest daughter Molly perform in a new play when she began feeling unwell midway through the performance.

Afterwards, she noticed she could not smile properly — a major warning sign of a stroke.

Speaking to the Mirror following the scare, Kerry recalled how the situation quickly escalated. "As the day went on, I didn't feel well. I went to the toilet and noticed my face wasn't right. And Heidi was like, 'Mum, what's wrong with your face?'" she shared.

She slipped out discreetly, made her way back to her hotel, and asked to see a doctor — telling staff something wasn't right. After taking a taxi and making her way to the hospital, doctors wasted no time.

"They said, 'We're treating this as a stroke,'" Kerry recalled, describing how she was then blue-lighted by ambulance from St Thomas' to King's College Hospital, with her face and speech deteriorating as doctors shone lights in her eyes.

She had been so frightened that she texted her children to tell them she loved them. "It really, really scared me," she admitted.

That experience had already shaken her deeply. This latest one with her mother has shaken her further still.

For now, Kerry is home, resting, and relieved — grateful her mum pulled through, and honest about the fact that she is still processing everything that happened.

"It was horrendous," she said one final time. And for anyone who has sat helplessly beside a loved one in a hospital bed, hoping and praying, those words will need no explanation at all.

It is not the first time recently that Kerry has turned to her followers from a hospital ward — and on that occasion, the reaction she received was a story in itself.

As readers may recall, earlier this year, the former Atomic Kitten star posted a late-night video from an overcrowded A&E ward, revealing that she had been admitted with a painful bowel condition. But while she appeared visibly exhausted, the response online was anything but compassionate.

Back in January, Kerry Katona shared footage from hospital while undergoing treatment for a painful condition — but it wasn't the cramped corridor or the cannula in her arm that drew the most attention.

The 45-year-old posted a late-night update to Instagram from what she described as an overcrowded A&E ward. "It's ten past two in the morning, and I have been in hospital since yesterday," said Kerry, looking visibly tired as she panned the camera around her surroundings.

"It's very full — so full. Unfortunately, I'm on a bed in the hall," she continued. "I have something called colitis… something to do with my bowels. So it's been… [expletive], excuse the pun." Kerry, who had not slept in nearly two days, added, "I'm in the right place."

Colitis is a condition that causes inflammation in the colon and rectum. While symptoms can remain manageable for some time, flare-ups can be severe, often involving joint pain, red and irritated eyes, painful skin inflammation, and mouth ulcers.

Despite the seriousness of her condition, the reaction online was far from sympathetic. Many appeared unmoved, instead criticising Kerry for speaking out or suggesting she was expecting preferential treatment.

"At least you got a bed. Do you think your special and need a private room or something. My 78 year old mum spent the night in a & e on a chair in the waiting room. She'd had a stroke [sic]," one person shared.

Another commented, "Join the rest of us who are treated the same," while a third wrote, "Join the club... No priorities here." Some questioned why Kerry wasn't receiving private treatment, given her public profile and previous displays of wealth.

"But your a multi millionaire Kerry....you don't have private healthcare? You'd rather spend your money renting a super car to pretend how rich you are than on health inusrance [sic]?" one critic typed.

Kerry had not responded to the backlash and remained in hospital at the time of writing as she continued to receive care. She didn't share how long she would remain under observation or whether her condition had stabilised.

At the time, she appeared to be focusing on recovery — and offering a raw glimpse into the reality many patients are currently facing inside the UK's overstretched health system.
