While Vanessa and Nick Lachey’s kids definitely keep them busy, they love being parents and have been very open about it ever since their first child was born in 2012.

TV personality and fashion model Vanessa Lachey has known 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey since the early 2000s. She was the host of “Total Request Live” on MTV from 2003 to 2007 and frequently interviewed him.

However, their relationship attracted some attention in 2006 when she starred in the music video for his hit song “What’s Left of Me.” At the time, Nick was still married to Jessica Simpson.

NICK’S FIRST WIFE, JESSICA SIMPSON

It is important to point out that Nick and Simpson had announced their separation a few months before shooting the video. The former couple married in 2002 and finalized their divorce in mid-2006.

Nick once admitted that not having children with Simpson was probably the best thing that could have ever happened, given their situation. Fortunately, they both managed to move on and now have adorable families of their own.

In Simpson’s case, she shares two children – daughter Maxwell and son Ace – with her husband, Eric Johnson. On the other hand, Nick has three kids with Vanessa (more on them later).

NICK LACHEY’S WIFE AND KIDS

Coming back to Nick and Vanessa Lachey’s love story, they made their relationship official in December 2006 but parted ways three years later. Fortunately, they got back together only one month later.

In November 2010, Nick popped the question in a “full begging position,” meaning that he got down on both knees. They tied the knot in July 2011 and started having children right away.

Camden, their eldest kid, was born in September 2012, and Vanessa once admitted that her son loves music and dancing, just like his famous dad.

Nick once said that although, as a parent, you never want to force your children into doing anything, it is nice that they “naturally gravitate” to what you’re passionate about.

Brooklyn, the couple’s only daughter, joined the family in January 2015. Apart from being Vanessa’s carbon copy, Brooklyn loves “anything that sparkles” and riding horses.

[Vanessa said] that embracing her “daily fails” as a parent has actually made her a better mom.

Phoenix is the youngest of Nick and Vanessa Lachey’s kids. He was born ten weeks premature in December 2016 due to umbilical cord prolapse.

Apart from that, he spent some time hospitalized for the respiratory syncytial virus. Fortunately, the boy made it out of the hospital and is enjoying life with his family.

NICK AND VANESSA ON PARENTING

Raising a child is challenging, let alone three. However, Nick and Vanessa have been very open about the things they do with their children and parenting in general.

Shortly after Camden’s birth, Nick confessed that the most surprising thing about fatherhood was how it could affect everything and completely turn schedules and priorities “for the better.”

In 2019, the singer shared a Father’s Day post on Instagram saying fatherhood was the greatest job in the world, but not the easiest. He also shared what he felt during Phoenix’s time in the hospital, writing:

“I felt a vulnerability I had never known before. […] The next [six] weeks in the hospital were the toughest and yet most wonderful weeks of my life.”

On the other hand, Vanessa once pointed out that embracing her “daily fails” as a parent has actually made her a better mom as she knows that balancing their careers and raising three kids at the same time can lead to parenting failures.

Still, it doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent. Other moms usually struggle to embrace their own fails due to the “perfect parent” image shown on social media and comparing oneself to others.

Vanessa has even questioned her own Instagram posts, fearing that she would encourage an unrealistic standard. According to her, though, parents need to stop beating themselves up as “it’s the norm to not be so picture-perfect.”

At the moment, Vanessa and Nick Lachey are co-hosting Netflix’s dating reality show “Love Is Blind” while also taking care of their three kids. They definitely make a great couple.
